I have recently fallen in love with the first-gen Tacoma, and I am now looking into buying one. I love the look of the 2 door and the xtra cab but it is not practical for me at the time so that leaves me with the four-door. I found a very clean 2001 4 door TRD offroad with the v6 and 4wd which is exactly what I want. The main concern/ questions I have are since it is a 2001, it has 266k miles and the guy is asking $9,900 for it which seems high for the miles to me. Would it be a worthy investment/ would it last for a long time? Thanks ahead of time for any replies!

A little of this and a little of that.
    Welcome to TW!

IMO, it would have to be VERY clean, with detailed maintenance history, in order to pay anywhere close to 10K for a 19 year old truck with those miles.

The timing belt/tensioner/water pump replacement is due every 90K, so it’s coming up at the 270K mileage. The frames on some of the 1st Gen trucks have known rust issues, but it’s not prevalent in GA.

Vehicles are rarely a worthy investment, and I advise everyone to never fall in love with anything that doesn’t love you back. :D

All that said, IF the truck is clean and well maintained, AND you could negotiate the price below 6K, the truck will last as long as its properly maintained.

I haven’t seen the truck, or know anything about it, just my .02.

Price seems super high to me unless it has a mountain of brand new parts/mods on it. I sold almost the exact same truck with 190k on it with supercharge, new timing belt, and bunch of other new(ish) parts in 2011 for what at the time was the crazy price of 13k

A 2001 4 door trd 4x4 v6 below $6k good luck. Maybe if it’s completely trashed, rebuilt title, flood vehicle. Not saying $10k is reasonable either unless it’s really really clean, ie body is straight and owner was decent pretty up on the maintenance. With all that being said I have a friend who has Trd first gen 4 door with over 450k on the clock. Crazy thing is he’s pretty much fix it when it breaks type.

As in he does all of his own maintenance as soon as it is needed and therefore the maintenance is minimal; or he doesn't fix anything until is is absolutely necessary and little to no preventative maintenance is done?
