Think I'm about to pull the trigger on bed stiffeners for my 04. I hate the idea of drilling into the bed but it might be good with the heavier shell I'm putting on. Then get the bed Linex sprayed and teach myself how to repair fiberglass on the shell I guess. Which then gets the shell off my flatbed so I can finish it.

Not my boat but it is a Caravelle Interceptor with a Volvo V8. Hitting 45mph on the water is a blast

Did yours do better in the freshwater?

Volvo makes good stuff. My boat is a 1977 Bayliner Cascade 1750 but it has a Volvo Penta 280 outdrive and a AQ130 four cylinder engine. It uses a car engine from a 1974 Volvo 142s. It’s funny because I found the exact car that engine came from in the junkyard last Saturday.

Not getting stuck in the shallow mud of the San Francisco Bay is a huge plus haha.

It did way better with my new seawater strainer. The old one was a lot more restrictive and didn’t do good at idle. I think mine got up to 45 MPH, I didn’t have a pitot tube or speedometer so I couldn’t tell. It really really gets up and goes.

Can't find the threads now but people were having issues with the bed mounts. I've only seen one person talk about the bedside developing a crack from flexing. I'm just not a fan of the uneven panel gap I'd get wheeling with the shell on. Felt like the shell was pushing the passenger side out in certain situations. And I'm about to have a significantly heavier shell. Example below from @austinmtb.

I could just get it bedlined and run the new shell for a bit. See how things go.

Oh shoot I wonder if it’s a 140 series Volvo. If it is it’ll have the engine in my boat. Got a pic?
