I can believe that. What I'm wondering is if those parts are actually meant for the front end collision. One person mentioned they read it in some article, and now this whole thread went off the rails. I want to see some proof behind that.

ah gotcha. I think my response was more intended for a previous post about adjusters...then I read the rest of the thread after making my post and it really went off the rails **slowly backs out of thread**

Your response was definitely warranted! I'm looking at parts diagrams to see if I can find the official name to see if that sheds light on this.

As a guy that works with all kinds of metals every day, there is no fucking way those are part of any sort of crash rating. They are tin cans held on by a single small bolt. The big chunk of aluminum in front of those? Yes. Even the mounting points of your suspension are made to absorb some of the load from impact. Those stupid things, no fucking way.

On the other hand what IS a very important piece of crash protection is the front cab mount...:anonymous: and plenty of people chopping those down too

Those may work, but it's hard to say without measuring and testing fitting. It's an oddly shaped rail.

Either way, the sample plug/cap I sourced arrived and fits perfectly. To make it worth anyone's time, I'd need 25 TW members to commit to ordering. I would not be making a profit of this. Two black plug/caps would be roughly $8 shipped. PM if interested.

A few guys have used those (or at least similar ones). They are usually made for fitness equipment (weight benches). Up to you if you want to take the time to make some, I'm sure people would appreciate something specific for the purpose.

Hypothetically, if I drive my truck over a ledge and die. What will be the legal ramifications of me removing them during the safety investigation?

FWIW - This appears to be the applicable Toyota frame drawing that shows the part in question. The official name for the part is "Extension, Frame Assembly Crossover" with a part number of 5119304010.
