    Some really cool shit
    Question.

I am about to hit 6,000 miles on my bike. This is the first suggested check up on the bike since the 600 mile oil change. My intention was to take it to the dealer I bought it from; East Bay Motorsports.
But, since there is no maintenance agreement I have no obligation to go there. Especially since I don't live in the Bay Area any longer. So, do I seek out a dealer in my new area, or go to an independent? I could look up the items checked in the 6,000 mile check, but I just don't feel like doing the work myself. I'm a reluctant wrencher on my truck, and usually get assistance from more knowledgeable Taco lovers. My two oil changes on my BMW Xcountry went ok, but a small PITA. And it was a single. The MT09 is a little different.

    Any sage advice out there?

I think there was a cam chain tensioner issue on my 2014. Not sure if it still exists. Not sure about the other maintenance. Some things I just let a shop do

I suggest looking for a specific forum for your bike and seeing if any other owners might live near you that do their own service and might be willing to help you. I'm active on 2 FJR1300 forums and we have tech days going on at various locations around the US on a regular basis. Some owners are really skilled at doing valve checks and adjustments, some guys are great at doing fork rebuilds and suspension service, and some are a wiz at electrical stuff. When I first started out with my 2007 FJR I was nervous about doing much more than an oil change or maybe spark plugs. I've now learned to check valves and change shims, rebuild my own forks, mount and balance my own tires and more. Most it's cost me is a case of Guinness or a bottle of scotch as a thank you gift.

Usps good luck ever getting ahold of someone.

Also im selling my 690 tonight...but all is good. It needs a new home where it can be ridden more.

As a teenager a buddy of mine had a hopped up Oddessy. Those things are blast, especially in the snow. You sit so low it doesn’t matter how fast you are going it feels twice as fast.

Nice! I'd like to have a beasty quad but like you said, price. Plus then you can't have a dual sport either.

I believe if you are doing the TAT. ( trans america trail) you need a street legal machine... the side by sides aren't street legal are they? I like the idea alot though

not here lol was barely 50 when I got out and dropped to like 40 toward the end. Balaclava came in handy.

the guy I bought my drz from did the TAT on it. I think I’d want something bigger for the longer stretches like a dr650 though.

smoother than I expected. I expected the rim locks to be more noticeable/out of balance but felt fine. The grip was sooo much better off-road though.

When I ride in the cold, my core and feet usually stay plenty warm, but my fingers (especially the finger tips) really get chilled.

With that in mind, I recently bought some thermal glove liners and wanted to test them out before actually taking the bike to work.

So this morning, I drove my morning commute in the car but had my left hand, clad in motorcycle glove and liner, sticking out of the driver’s side window in the cold wind.

The liner seems to have worked. My fingers were still cold when I got to work, but they weren’t in pain like when I was just wearing my regular Bilt gloves.

I think tomorrow morning I will attempt the commute on the CBR.

Ride in was a little cool this morning at 37 degrees. I think the fuse for my heated gear blew again as my jacket liner didn't seem to be working. Have to look into that when I get home this afternoon. I did break out my cold weather jacket and overpants so it was tolerable even if heated gear wasn't working.
