This is my snow set. FJ steel wheels on Nokian Hakka R3s in 265/70-17.

TBH, I don't love them as much as I had anticipated. Maybe I just need to clean the truck as glaringly clean wheels on an otherwise gross truck doesn't help. Maybe I should have went back to the stock OR wheels on slightly larger tires, or maybe I'll eventually hunt down a set cheap of Sport alloys in the next few years. They seem to trade cheap as they're less desirable than the 3G OR wheels. Whatever happens 5-6 years when I replace these snows, I'll likely go back to a 16" tire and run the TRD OR wheels.

The FJ center caps SUCK to get on the truck correctly.

    Thoughts?

I've been wanting to go the steel wheel route for a while and I'm starting to get serious about it.

I see a lot of people going the FJ steel wheel route and was wondering if 1st gen tundra steel wheels would work. The offset is very similar it's just a 16" vs 17". From what I've read the 16" tacoma stock steel wheel offset is 25, the 17" FJ ones are 15, and the 16" tundra ones are 14 (correct me if I'm wrong on any of that). Is there a caliper/general clearance issue I'm unaware of or is it just that most people prefer the 17"? Or maybe the 1st gen tundra steel wheels are impossible to find? I've seen them online, but out of stock.

I compared the specs on the Road Ready 16” steel wheels I bought to the stock TRD OR wheels on my 2006 Tacoma and they appeared to the be same width and offset as stock. They also don’t look like they stick out any more or less than the stock alloys did either.
I’m sure the 16” tundra wheels are the same.

86, would have loved a solid axle but couldn't pass this one up.

It’s sweet. Had to pass up a sweet 85 a few years back. Still wishing I coulda made it work, same cream color but the extra cab. Had a really raggedy 85 many years ago.

My dealer said it was just a matter of ordering the Tundra ones $134 per. I went with the 16" Tacoma version.

    From my research...

    Tundra Wheel
    42601AF010
    16" wheels - Width: 7", Offset: +15mm, Backspacing: 4.5", Hub Bore Diameter = 106mm

That's exactly how a Toyota pickup should look. It's going in my spank bank.

I appreciate that! I had the factory steel wheels powder coated to match the "Toyota creme 557" paint. Hadn't seen anyone do it but I love how it looks. It's nice to have a vehicle that I am 110% happy with without endless "mods" its perfect how it is now imo.

That’s probably the coolest truck I’ve ever seen on TacomaWorld. Tan with white steelies looks glorious!

The FJ Cruiser wheels are 17 x 7.5 whereas I believe all the 16" steel wheels are 7" wide. Be aware that the aftermarket steel wheels don't have the provisions to run the OEM metal center caps. Also, be aware that the OEM metal caps and the SR5 steel wheel lug nuts don't play well together in terms of clearance. Lastly, the steel wheel center caps are pricey if you purchase them as FJ center caps, but these are the same center caps run on most Toyota steel wheels since the 1990's. I believe mine are re-pops (but they weren't explicitly called out as such) and shown as a T100 center cap. However, they're the same part number and same piece, at $15 / wheel less.

As for why I went FJ over spare, I simply liked the larger size wheel since I wasn't planning on an aggressive AT tire as I'm only running these for winter. I wanted the industrial look and thought the proportions looked better in 17" than 16".

Obviously not from the 80's, but I went the same route with my 3rd gen land yacht.
