Thank you. I used my plasma cutter and a straight edge to cut the squares out, which took me more time than I care to admit.

 

I still haven’t mastered my plasma cutter, my cuts are ugly and jagged with a big mess. I definitely need to practice, your cuts are beautiful!

 

Yeah man, without a straight edge, mine will look like a shark took a bite out.

 

I’ll have to try the straight edge. Do you let your tip slide across the surface when you cut or do you use an adapter to maintain a distance?

 

Are you using a drag tip?

 

Yes, I believe all the Hypertherm torches use their standard drag shield/tip. It's a solid copper thread on shield.

 

Haha my bad, you weren't even commenting to me. Anyway, I also use this extended reach nozzle, which also has a solid drag tip.

 

Try using the short tip that unwieldy thing is probably making it harder than it needs to be

 

I don't have a hard time with any of those. I use the extended reach to cut in hard to reach areas that the standard tip can't get a good angle. The long nozzle is not made to use to cut regular sheet metal on a table.

 

The extended tip is so awesome. It’s great for stuff like cutting shock and cab mounts off.

 

I didn’t even know something like that existed! Too bad I have a harbor freight cutter and I can guarantee something like that doesn’t exist for it.

 

Just because you have trouble welding sheet metal does not mean we all do.

Practice on Black Stove pipe I think it might be 26 gauge.

Probably? I have a everlast plasma cutter, I have only used it a couple times to tinker. I haven’t gotten around to any real projects with it. I can’t even tell you much about it, it’s a couple years old and model powerplasma 52.

 

A drag tip on plasma cutter actually rest on the metal. There is no "hovering". Drag tips plasma torches can make some amazing clean straight cut. Almost as clean as a shear.

 

Yep, I got it, but I ran out of 035 on the machine it was going on 1st and I already had a replacement 035 spool before the 023 got here. I should have waited but I'm impatient. I like having welders on opposite sides of a project. I'm used to not moving my welders far to reach a weld location.

 

Are they a universal thing or does the cutter have to be capable of a drag tip?

 

In most cases the cup, tip are different so the brass drag cone can encapsulate the tip. I know the millers and hypertherm have kits to make there torches drag tip torches.
