3rd Gen Owners with King Coilovers

Spent half the day tackling this install. Really need to invest in a lift for my garage. Factory King preload on stock TRD Pro wheels, UCA’s and 265/70/16 without AAL. I also bought an Icon 1.5” AAL that’ll be installed when I eventually get bigger tires. Sits pretty level so I’m happy with it. Forgot to take before measurements and will edit the post with after measurements once I take it for a drive. These things are BEEFY

fronts and rear seem to be sitting at 21.75”

 

Anyone using the king 2.0 w/reservoir in the rear?

 

Unless you get something custom made, King doesn't offer a 2.0 Remote Reservoir shock for a Tacoma.

 

I'm going to be purchasing Kings this week, if I am going for a 2.5" lift I should go with the extended version front and rear correct? I am also going to be getting Icon Delta Joint UCA and Headstrong AAL for rear.

 

Yes, the extended will give you a little more travel with the lift. It's not a lot but usually recommended with aftermarket UCA's from what I've read.

No, I don’t experience top out.

 

If you want a little more travel in back we could get you setup with a Tundra. Would just need to run proper bump stop spacer. PM if you have any questions, happy to help

 

So kings came in this morning. I got 650# ext for the front. I opened the box and took a peek. It has 4 threads on both sides. I’m assuming that’s about 2 inches of lift?

Finally got the last piece of my King kit today. So glad the wait is finally over.

 

This is my current setup, I believe I went with the 600/650lb springs whichever they come with unless getting the 700lbs. They ride decent on road, they handle sudden bumps pretty well, not as great at slower speeds. But around 40-50 bumps feel minimal. Off road they’re fantastic. My truck floats on bumpy dirt roads, up in the mountains of CO they perform well.

Although during installation /adjustment I managed to knock a bypass bottle hose loose on my passenger side and some of the fluid came out, and I’m thinking that might have to do with some of the shortfalls I’m having with the ride comfort etc. Any of you guys experience the same thing? Was there negative effects? Should I get the fluid refilled/inspected?

EDIT: I just realized this is a Gen 3 thread, hopefully I’m not shunned with my Gen 2

 

Standard Kings come with 600lb springs but you can get 650 or 700 I believe? Not sure if these are Charged units or not but many shops can recharge them if you lost pressure? If you only lost a little fluid probably nothing to worry about. If you lost a good amount then I would get them checked. Fairly new to the King world so hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.

 

Standard spring is a 14" x 600lb, unless you chose to upgrade where ever you bought. Depending on how much oil was lost, yes I would get them topped off. This will require the shock to be pulled apart though. This will ensure they last as long as possible. If. you're ever wanting to change the ride quality, we can certainly help with that.

 

I’m not entirely sure what constitutes a good amount/little amount of fluid in terms of these shocks, I’ll probably have it looked at/charged just to be on the safe side.

 

Anyone running the small hybrid bumper with winch on the standard kings in front? Mine will be about 120lbs total so wondering how much it will drop? I'm guessing 1/4 inch.

More or less, yes. If you have a standard 14" x 600lb spring on the coilover, it will compress 1" for every 600lb of weight.

 

That's what I understand. Will be looking at new set of kings with 650lb springs in the future. Will definitely keep you in mind.

 

Im looking at something similar would you recommend sticking with the 600lb springs or moving up to the 650’s?

 

14 x 600 spring works for a wide variety of applications, so unless you are adding a ton of weight up front they will be just fine. We hardly ever recommend or sell 650s
