Impact Gun

The shop I go to for tires, which is a small, but very busy one does every single lug on every passenger vehicle with a torque wrench. Granted they run them up with a battery powered nut driver (which probably has a peak torque of about 25 ft-lbs), but they're all finished by hand with a torque wrench, set to that vehicles spec. If a couple of extra dollars is more important to you than doing a proper job, that's your prerogative - I wouldn't patronize your establishment, but I'm sure lots do, so if it works for you....

 

I have a bunch of Milwaukee M12 tools, but decided to go Rigid for my 18 volt tools. Some of them I actually prefer over

I have no complaints about the Rigid 18v mid torque 1/2" impact. And I plan on picking up the high torque model at some point, will probably wait until I cannot remove a fastener to purchase one.

 

well what you said is kinda of the point I was making, they still drive them on with some sort of device... obviously you finish with a torque wrench lol

 

It should be obvious, but I've seen (as I'm sure you have) a lot of places (Wal-mart and Canadian Tire leap to mind) where the first year apprentice is driving lug nuts onto a friggin' smart car with a 1/2" impact... makes me want to throat-punch them!

 

Along with a 1/2" impact gun, I also want to get one of those 3/8" milw ratchets. The fuel and the regular look and feel different. Looks like the regular has a torque around 35 ft/lb and the beefier fuel (slightly bigger too) has like 55 ft/lbs. Anyone used either of those, any thoughts?

I hardly use the electric ratchet except for when under the truck and a ton of short strokes are needed to remove bolts or a bunch of bolts in succession, then they have a purpose. Most of the time for me they are too big and clunky to use comfortably.

 

I got the regular since the head is a bit smaller I can wedge it in places a little easier. Plus the 35ftlbs means I can zip on a decent amount of bolts without worrying about over tightening.

Either one will be a godsend though if you wrench alot, my 1/2 impact and 3/8 ratchet are easily my 2 most used tools

 

I have the same, as well as the M12 impact in 1/2"... there isn't much I can't remove when I want to!

 

I use my 3/8ths fuel ratchet all the time, saves a TON of time zipping things in and out as long as you can access them - unfortunately it’s pretty large and doesn’t get into as many nooks and crannies as I’d like - with that said, I would happily buy it again and definitely recommend it.

 

Yeah that's what I was wondering about. I'm thinking gonna get the big 1400lb milw, then maybe that regular m12 3/8 ratchet for smaller stuff

I do the same though, cinch it to 3 clicks on the low setting, then torque to finish. Dang near perfect every time
