Was hanging out with the DC team. It was an unofficial get together. dc is still not allowing organized sports. I wanted to play for this team then COVID ended everything, and everything is still in that state.

In the meantime I'm getting back in a routine because when the time comes that I can be on an organized sports team again I will be ready.

Because @mindstar loves my shoe talk so much...

I was able to return the Hoka Shitgoats.
I have never hated a shoe quite as much. I always like to put 300-500 miles in a shoe before I form an opinion on it. But this shoe was $140, which in my opinion is criminal for a shoe cost. I actually sold furniture in my house to buy it.
The toe box was so narrow it crushed my toes together and gave me blisters between my toes. It forced me into a road shoe for my ultra.

And I’m a narrow size 8.5. And it was too narrow for me.

So I’ve got a vendetta against Brooks and Hoka now. :(

But glad I was able to get my coin back for them.

I wanted to like them but after 30 miles them (2 runs) foam was already peeling. The foam is too dense and overall poor quality.

    Do not recommend.

I used to love running in brooks but pushed myself to start running in a minimalist shoe because sometimes the brooks would put one of my feet to sleep and started bothering my toes as if they were too small. I did run my only half marathon in brooks though.

I've ran probably like 30ish miles in some xero HFS which were $110 (but I got them on sale for $80) and I really really like them. They have never put my feet to sleep, they dont hurt my feet or make running or walking uncomfortable, and I feel more in tune mentally with what my feet are doing. Idk. It feels better for me, YMMV as I have wide feet which seems opposite of you haha.

You doing any circuits in the gym or more just strict lifting?

In the fall of 2013 (October to be exact) I had a bad experience with a pair of Brooks Adrenaline. I just passed 300 miles in the shoes and had a 14 mile run scheduled. The shoes went bad halfway through that run and left me with horrible knee and ankle pain.

Since then I won’t wear Brooks. When I feel betrayed by a brand even once 7 years ago it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Never bought another pair.

But many people love Brooks and they have a solid following. So they must serve many people well.

Saucony has been my go to road brand for years. Asics has been until recent. Their shoes are too stiff and not as updated so when my current pairs wear out I may not buy more. But I ran my ultra in the Nimbus and they did well.

Shoes are very personal and individual. No two people have the same experience in the same shoe.

I’m struggling to find out what trail shoe I pair well with. But it did take years to find my current road shoe line up.

I don’t do circuts, I pretty much powerlift. Compound movements hit maximum muscle groups in minimal time so I can more effeciently divide my time and effort between my many fitness passions.

My research has shown the top ultra/trail shoe brands are:
    Solomon
    Altra
    Hoka
    Inov8
    And La Sportiva

I love my Altras for daily wear and lifting and even my trail shoes. They just hurt my knee past 10-12 miles. My PT has recommended since my knee injury was ACL located I do not transition to zero drop. I think its funny the two guys on here with ACL reconstructions are in zero drops.

How is the width at the toes for those Inov8s?

I ordered a pair of Topo Athletic Mountain Racers. They have the toe box of an Altra but not zero drop. We’ll see how those do.

Started as a wing with every other rookie, amirite? Then pleaded and pleaded until they let me be a lock. Then I ended as a lock and as my teams jumper in the lineout. Lineouts were my jam. I probably got like 90% of every single lineout, even the other teams. Def a forward at heart I think.

Man, i really wanted to be back on the pitch regularly. That's for damn sure. I'm actually almost back down to my rugby playing weight. Now I just gotta stay in shape.

What did you play? Hooker? Flanker?

Yeah I was a loose forward or occasionally an inside centre. As a flanker I would sometimes jump in line outs too was a lot of fun unless they dropped me. I loose head propped now and again too. When I was a rookie they put me in at lock lol...I am 6’ so I was not there long.

The inov8s used to be like $75 and I have no idea what happened...I am wearing this pair into the ground. And @PackCon the toe box is wide af like most barefoot shoes.

    I may be trading you.
I could be starting my quarantine today. Nephew is on his way to get tested. If he shows positive then I'm working out at home for two weeks.

No family get together goes unpunished.

See, this is why I can’t gym at home. I get home and decide I’d rather lift a cold beer to my lips than weights.

    Fail at life.

I resemble that. For me, I have to leave the house for the gym. Or at least take off for a run or bike ride that takes me directly away from the house. That way, if I give up, I still have to get back home. Actions driven by mental weakness....

Do anti-inflammatory shots and meds make you retain water? I've never had an issue with most but I went from 284 to 292 the next morning.... Usually I'm light in the morning. Feeling real bloated and not eating much at all.

I can link a couple pounds to OTC NSAID use.

Hmmmm. Never had an issue with OTC but this script and shot seem to be messing with me. I had low carbs yesterday and still woke up 10lbs heavier than normal.

Lift in the morning. No bs from the day weighing you down and whatever happens all day, at least you did something. I used to think I couldn't lift at home, but doing it before work made the difference.
