clunk when switching from four wheel drive......

Have been getting a little snow and such and used the four wheel dive to pull cars out and stuff! But every time i switch out of four wheel drive to two wheel drive the front end makes a hard clunk?? anyone else get this on the 2nd gen??

 

I honestly don't know, but I think it's a natural sound. I've been driving a 98' shitbox s10 forever and its always made some kind of hard clunk, and my old jeep whenever switching out while in drive would do that until someone instructed me to go into neutral and shift then, which made sense.

 

I do know... I have had three 4WD Tacos... they all 'clunk' or 'thump' or whatever when you disengage the transfer case... not always, but IT IS NORMAL!

Now, go four wheeling and have fun!!!

 

I'll let off the gas and see if that helps! It's so hard to let off the gas when it's so damn fun!!

 

X2...If you take the load off the drive line the clunk noise won't happen. Be sure your going straight when you disengage.

 

i too have noticed this. It does seem to switch from 2hi to 4hi smoother when off the throttle, but i usually still get a brief grinding noise or clunk thats pretty loud. i was worried there was something wrong with my taco.
