I went with MT because I decided to sell all my Vehicles and just stick to one. If that was the case, I wanted it to at least be a bit fun.

Been driving in LA traffic with a manual for 10 years. Putting it in first and idling in combination with leaving plenty of space makes it so I don't have to stop is braindead easy. Since the 1980's automakers have been developing self driving tech to alleviate causes of traffic that stem from human reaction time with stopping and starting. Now we have self driving systems in luxury cars and electric cars that will do that, however some may say manuals paired with a human do it for cheaper lol.

MTs are good for drama. I mean, think of how short each of the Fast and the Furious films would have been if the team had been driving ATs?

Learning to drive a manual takes time and patience but the reward is more enjoyable, engaged driving. Unfortunately many don’t have the desire to learn this skill or were never offered the opportunity growing up.

In the end manuals make better drivers because they force people to concentrate on driving. All most everyone texting behind the wheel are people in automatics who are checked out. For the most part manuals force you to use both hands thus removing cell phones from the equation.

in a bad situation i can push start any vehicle with a manual. it's rare, but i have had to push start a few older cars and trucks with wiring issues or a battery that doesn't hold a charge well.

To each his own, I keep trucks for 300,000 + miles and clutches are cheaper to replace than complicated automatics FULL of electronics. I don't do a lot of big city driving and I will shift gears as long as I am physically able.

Not sure I have anything new to add but I've owned five MT pickups in a row and my opinions are:

    1. It's fun
    2. I like the challenge of being consistent/trying to nail shifts/being smooth
    3. I like it in snow
    4. I've never trusted automatics. The more gears they come out with the more skeptical I am that it can work right

Or if they were driving something other than the 25 speed Honda Civics they were driving... seriously, half of those movies is shifting...

my late uncle had polio from the 1930s and as a kid i remember checking out his old van with a special lift for his wheelchair he used to drive south for the winter. He even had some custom setup to hand shift and brake, gas etc. at the steering wheel, now i am curious if they still do that sort of customizing for challenged disabled people in this day and age

I used to have a client with a 2012 3 series (auto) that had very limited use of his legs and in one of his arms . He had it set up with a single handle/push rod for braking and accelerating with a knob on the steering wheel to help for turning. You would push for brakes and in the same lever tilt down to accelerate. Brake stands and burnouts in that thing would have been so easy lol.

    Because shifting gears is fun.

there is no practical justification... it's not better for gas mileage or towing or anything else. It's just more fun to drive.

It's way more fun for me. I feel like I have more control. In an auto I feel like I'm coasting out of control. I came from a Kia Forte manual and to me the tacos manual tranny is a dream to use. I don't mind stop and go traffic at all. It just happens naturally for me and I don't even think about shifting.
