My mom has a fully loaded offroad, I bought a sport model before joining forum and learning differences.

Anyways, gave her my airdam and she’s getting like 22-24, she only does speed limit though. Can’t beat that.

Im lifted and everything and usually get 17-18. Can get better, but I never drive on highway.

Killer here in Utah is the 80mph speed limits. Loaded down for a weekend of riding, I sit in the right lane and cruise at 72. Much better mileage than trying to keep it at 80.

Keep in mind Alabama sea level really doesn’t go much higher than 1500’ anywhere in the state. Complete guess btw, and we have hills, but the whole state isn’t up and down lol

    also speed limit is 70

My 2nd gen (V6 2WD) was stock and I averaged 22mpg with it.

My 3rd gen (also V6 2WD) is functionally stock, some vanity modifications, otherwise still 22-24mpg on average. I've seen 27-28mpg on certain routes I drive, those are the no stop light, long periods of 55mph and no terrain.

Increasing weight, or increasing drag with modifications such as larger tires/ wheels, bed racks, cow catcher will all be penalties in economy. I live in the flatlands of Florida so there is no terrain to contend with, and the key is never speed. Just leave the house 5 minutes earlier than you have been, hang out in the right lane doing the speed limit. Parasite drag increases with velocity, or simply put doubling the speed generates 4x the drag = poor economy.

With light towing, I'll see mileage in the high teens. A friend of mine has a 3rd gen TRD Sport 4WD that gets 9mpg when towing a 26', 6,000lb camping trailer.

My 2nd gen V6 gets 18 on a good day. That’s with larger tires. I didn’t realize the newer ones were getting that much better. I thought Tacoma gas mileage sucked from day one til preset. ;)

Living in Colorado I do a lot of mountain driving. And at higher altitudes vehicles are starved for oxygen which also effects gas mileage.

    New Tacoma mileage averages.

If I'm lucky on the highway at 75mph, i've seen about 25 mpg.
City driving is horrible MPG for me. I've seen my average float anywhere between 17-20 mpg.

oh man i like mpg posts. i track my fills and milages since i got my truck last year. mpg seems to go down when its colder. i added a bed rack and rtt in may this year and mpg still went up. did a road trip around colorado a couple months ago with no discernable mpg loss. i did miss a couple data points though

Bingo. Also thicker air density means your truck has to work harder to keep freeway speeds.

not a full on bike tour but i've done all day epics. bonking is indeed real. that's what the honey stinger waffles, sandwiches, and energy bars are for.

I did SF to LA one year. Wouldn't do it again. SF to SLO maybe, but SLO to LA was terrible. Bikepacking the colorado trail is way fun too. fuckin hard though

man, that sounds brutal from SF to LA. SF/LA to SLO sounds way long. I've been looking at bikepacking adventures. There's a few around UT I want to try. short ones, nothing too crazy. we'll see after winter what I decide to do.

i was at berkley for work training and was meeting my parents in LA the next weekend. super rare opportunity im glad i took advantage of.
honestly, after 5 days on the co trail this year id rather just do shuttle/day rides and sleep in my rtt. camping stuff weighs down your bike hard, couldnt get way rowdy on descents with stuff bouncing. if you're out exploring it would be way fun. i still have a goal of self supporting the whole co trail in 10 days or less though

dayum. self supported is always tricky. increased risk as well. I've seen a trip around my area for a 2 day 1 night if you push. so I might just make it a 3 day 2 night thing for me. idk. we'll see. still working things out.

S24O or something? Sub 24 hour overnights. I did a few when i was in seattle. always fun for a good shakedown ride and testing gear. got a couple here i could do from my house. give it a go. worst case you call for a ride out. even better if you have someone meet you at camp with stuff just in case. vegan cyclist did something similar in one of his vids this year
