OK. I'm still kind of new at this RTT thing.

Can anyone offer any Pro Tips on how to fold one up by yourself? My biggest problem is getting the folded tent scrunched down enough to put on the tent's cover. The hinged side is not a problem, but the other side is.

i stand on the edge of the bed and lift it and tuck. not super easy, but it works. one of the cons of not spending 3k on a hard shell

 

I always fold it over on itself but then go around and push all the extra flaps inside between the bars and stuff then if needed I jump up and sit on it to scrunch it down. But usually ifyou have to apply pressure to get it to close then you probably have too much stuff inside (blankets, extra padding)

 

Except mine is on a trailer.

Fold it up, then get up there and lift / tuck the extra material around the back side. Like @mrtonyd said. I personally dont ever sit/stand on the edge and try to crush it down, seems like a lot of pressure on the hinges to me..

Lots of up and down around the truck. Also watch yourself it the bed rail caps are wet or snowy

 

as long as its not mounted at head height, you should be able to tuck the stuff in without climbing all over it.

 

it adds literally 30 seconds to go around and tuck in all the extras. wasn't worth the extra 2k in costs for me.

 

Try doing that in the snow at 15 degrees and everything is frozen

 

I can stuff in the sides without a problem. It's trying to pull the folded side down enough to connect the clips.

 

do you have pillows and sleeping bags in it?

 

Do you not pack gloves?

That was going to be my next question. I have added a 1" foam topper and leave 3 blankets inside and mine folds up fine. he must be leaving really thick stuff in there.

 

Different tents and different sizes will fold up differently.. I cant keep any pillows in my 2 person Ayer tent.
