Hey everyone. I will preface, I have little to no idea about what I'm talking about so go easy on me lol.

I just dropped off my truck to get a full OME suspension kit put on my 2017 Tacoma. The shop has had the truck for about a week now, and yesterday when I thought I was supposed to be picking it up, they said that a bolt on the lower control arms that is seized on both sides, and that they broke one off when trying to remove it. They said it will cost $400 to replace...

I'm not totally sure what bolt they are talking about, but they said they need the new ones to get it properly aligned.

I live in Montana so rust is not really an issue, and my truck is only a few years old and I haven't seen any other rust issues or had any other bolts seize...

Is this a normal issue and normally cost this much? Or am I getting ripped off?

    Thanks.

Common issue on older trucks especially where rust is an issue, but on a 2017? Sounds odd

Thats what I thought too... Seems possible but unlikely... Also seems expensive for two bolts, is it normally this much $$?

Honestly $400 doesn't sound that bad to me considering a shop is doing it, but I'm used to CA shop prices. They are correct you need those bolts to work the alignment, I'm assuming an alignment is part of quote.

Gotcha. Thanks for the info. Do you know what that bolt is called so I can know what I'm talking about haha?

LCA cam bolts, there are 4 total. Look like this

    PICT1753.jpg

Those are adjusted to achieve alignment so if they are frozen and need to be cut off, they need replacing

And if they're coming off it would be a good time to upgrade your LCA bushings to poly ones in my opinion, but that'll up your quote a good bit

Not sure honestly, I just got these installed on my 04 at RPM Garage

Apparently they're the Aussie version of Whitelines, or so they told me

    Is this the correct part?

i had a stripped LCA cam bolt on my 2017. it became big drama, "lies and coverups", as it were.

cut to the chase.. the reason is a high school part time alignment tech stripped it because he was an unskilled idiot. and he didn't come clean.

if the shop is offering you a full fix and alignment after for $400, I'm pretty sure i know what happened but it doesn't matter if they look good enough to fix the problem however it arose. I'd be good with that myself. but i would want the confidence they can & will do it right in the end.

here's my version of it: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/align-s-good-crazy-pull-to-r-not-the-tires.569048/

Hmm. This seems to be about what I was thinking. Thanks for info, I guess I'll see what happens. I'll give an update Monday when I pick up the truck.

Thought I'd give an update on this. All the cam bolts were seized and the bushings were toast. Cost about $400 to replace it all but now its good to go! Got the lift and everything installed and it drives like a dream! Really stoked on how the OME kit drives on and offroad. Also switched over the the STMAXX's instead of the KO2's I've been running for a while and so far I'm loving them... Thanks for the advice and tips on the cam bolt situation!
