Good luck man. I’ve asked a similar question over two years in this thread and all I get is replace them with replacements from Tepui. I know someone somewhere has “upgraded” these straps

I see folks complain about this over and over, so it’s not worth the chance. I’m also going over a soft topper or on the 4Runner so the hard shell aero is a plus

Yeah mines currently over a softopper above the height of the cab, I have to step up the tire or tailgate to do the what I call "the flap tuck" cause my smittybilt overhang likes to blow out the door when I fold it up. I can dig the aero of a hardshell though, that's what I hate so far about the big box above the cab of my soft RTT. However I do weekend camping so most of the time I am not setting it up and tearing it down frequently. Its up once and down once.

This is exactly why I went with the hard shell. The soft is comfortable, but the set up and take down is pain in the a$$!

    Yep!

It’s not too bad once you do it enough. Takes me like 5min. But it’s terrible to do in cold cold temps. But I’ll be switching to a hardshell. It’s more aerodynamic now that I have a camper and being able to put my pillows and blanket in there will be nice.

I wanted a hard shell but it was out of my price range. And the one I got was practically new and I paid about half the cost of a new one. So it seemed like a good idea at the time.

I recently bought all new straps. All like the style you show. The 4 Velcro straps that hold the folded tent close and the 2 outside straps that hold the cover down are all getting replace. All my velcro straps are getting weaker every use and I ended up breaking one of my outside straps!
ANYONE know how to take the tent apart?!?! I know there will be lots of rivets drilled out.

I need to replace the straps. So I think I need to separate the tent "rail" that holds the floor together and what your tent sides and cover slips into. You know what I mean?
Here are when my straps look like. They are like pinched between the "rail" and floor.

My straps ARE NOT LIKE THIS:

oooh, I see. Yeah idk about that one.

You could add the other style if you wanted I suppose. Some sheet metal screws, a pilot drill, and the plastic or aluminum cap things. Then cut the old ones off flush. May be easier than trying to unrivet the entire thing

Hopefully I don't need to take out tooooo many rivets haha
I think I will be able to loosen the rail a little and shove the new trap in there.
Looking forward to the challenge haha. I'll do it in the spring so I don't freeze my fingers off.

Yeah, indeed. Are there any portable type heaters that would be good for an RTT?

    Does anyone use anything?

Mr heater with a separate carbon monoxide alarm. I keep a window somewhat open to vent. I only initially warm up the tent before bed then turn it off. Sometimes middle of the night quick warm ups but never leave it on. Morning wake ups help with the heater before getting out of the bag.

    just use it cautiously.

Ive been seeing alot of people talking about a diesel heater. But its not meant for RTTs. More for campers.
