Do you regret getting the 6 speed manual?

I love shifting my own gears, and the more the better, but with all the common issues with the poor design of the six speed (bell housing and throwout bearing squeak!) not to mention the slightly worst fuel economy I wish I would have go the auto version! Used to be that the manual was more reliable than the automatics! Not so with this one

 

i love it, i feel i have more control on how i do things because i pick my gear and not the ecu.

same here, i'm a MT guy and always have been, actaully the taco is my first AT purchase in 11 years, the only reason i got a auto was because of the negative feedback i read on this forum with the reliability problems

 

Whenever I drive sn automatic vehicle it puts me to sleep, and I forget I only need one foot ..Stick 4Life FTW!!

I LOVE the 6 speed and have no regrets whatsoever on it. I actually bought my truck before I joined the forum, so I never heard of any issues with it. Anyone care to fill me in? Use layman's terms if possible =]

 

We should meet halfway and swap. I wish I had a manual.

 

I regret buying the 5 speed. I wanted a automatic but had to settle for a credit builder.

Since its the 4 cylinder it had to be manual. I definitely would not get a 4 banger in auto.

I also really don't think the 5 speed is anymore solid than the 6.

 

I love mine I have no regrets.if ya think about it we only here about mess ups on here not everyone comes here to comment on how well their truck is doing. People come here for answers to problems they are having......well for the most part lol

 

i'd rather stick pins in my eyes than drive a slush box. i realize there's issue's with the six speed but i'll deal with them.

 

I love my 6 speed. I've never had any trouble with it and love the control it gives me.

I taught both my daughters to drive manual and both their vehicles are manual.

 

No issues with my 6spd. Its. No different than my other mt trucks. Don't let some small issues. Get you worried.

 

I regret getting the 6 speed, but not for reliability reasons. It's a shitty clutch/gear combo:

• 1st gear is ridiculously short.
• 6th gear is ridiculously short.
• RPM hang ruins the clutch action completely.

I love my 6 speed. The rpm hang from the odd ECU program can be annoying at times, and I'd like 6th gear to be shorter so that 70mph was ~2k rpm. These are not issues that ruin the enjoyment of being able to control what freakin' gear my truck is in. Ever time I drive my wife's car (which shifts pretty well for an auto I must admit) I want to stick pins in my eyes. I hate having to dick around with the throttle to try and get the vehicle to shift into the gear I want it in!

If/when I have TOB issues I'll address them. The possible issue wasn't worth the hated hassle of a slushbox.

 

A 4000lb truck that makes a modest 236 hp is never going to be sporty, regardless of auto or manual. I wish I had realized that before buying the 6speed, especially considering the odd gearing and lower MPG compared to auto.

 

Nope. Still enjoy my 6 speeds.

As for TOB, I was already aware of it but from my experience, only small number of owners are affected.

My previous car, a Jeep Patriot, has a bad habit to have leaks from everywhere. When raining, it rains inside (no joke and no exaggeration). Some people were having this problem only after a small number of miles. Me, after two years and 60 000km (37 500 miles), never had this kind of issue. I sold it because I wanted a Tacoma. Patriot was a very nice car with a well built 4x4 / ESP system.

My other previous car, a Pontiac Sunfire, notorious to have numerous issues and not really dependable. Well, After 5 years and 160 000 km (93 200 miles), I never went to the garage. I even did a road trip between home and California (6 200 miles) without any issues. I sold my car to my brother and still running fine after 7 years and 210 000 km (130 200 miles). Only bearings wheel and brakes were changed.

The morale of the story: it's not because someone somewhere had an issue that you will likely have it too. Forums exists to share experiences and issues but we have a tendency to talks more (and with emphasis) about issues.

Seriously, I'm not worried about TOB, not at all. I may be affected one day, maybe not, but it doesn't make me nervous and I sleep well each night.

 

I bought the 6 speed so my wife can't drive it.

My only regrets are some of my commutes driving into Washington DC on a daily basis. Pushing in on the clutch constantly for up to 2 hours can get rediculous sitting in stop and go traffic.
