Hmmm, yeah having 4 legs would allow for mounting stuff on the outsides without restricting movement. If we had the full height version, I would be a little afraid of the center two legs hitting each other in that case.

oh it will hit for sure if all 4 were used at the same time. Each component is removable so you can configure your setup based on what you want the rack to do. There was a shorter version of the support which is at 12 inches.

Yeah, my intent was to have a full height rack to be able to open either side, not necessarily both at the same time. All while still being able to mount stuff to it.

It might be possible, I’ll know more once I pick it up from powder coating. for sure you will be able to have one side loaded and be able to open in one of the configurations. however you would need to upgrade the gas shocks on the diamondback to accommodate the extra weight of the items.

Not just yet still trying to research it myself. I think the stock ones are 80lb shocks and the panels weigh 40- 50lb. I have seen some gas shocks that can hold 100lb but it also depends on the weight of your accessories.

Here’s some information on shocks that I posted a while back. There is a link to the Suspa catalog with all of their options.

My Diamondback HD cover is arriving today, and I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning. I was lucky to score one through their Outlet for a nice discount (it has one ugly weld on the inside of a panel), and it shipped quickly since it was already made. The only bummer is that it didn't have the tie down cleats, so I ordered a set of 4 separately.

To mount my RTT - I purchased a KB Voodoo mid-height rack and was going to run it in conjunction with the DB cover (using KB Voodoo's tonneau cover brackets). But the setup ends up being too tall, even with the mid-height rack (the tonneau brackets add another 2.5" to the over all height), and their short height rack isn't an option either because I can't access the space under the tent from the sides. So I have since changed my mind and decided that the Front Runner bars are the better setup for my needs (shameless plug - the brand new KB Voodoo rack is for sale, if anyone is interested :)).

I ran a complete Front Runner slimline 2 rack on my previous vehicle (Nissan Xterra) and I absolutely loved it. Front Runner makes some amazing quality stuff, and I'm a sucker for how modular it is and the plethora of accessories they offer. DB is out of stock on the kit, so I called Front Runner directly to order the components. As soon as I mentioned the word Diamondback, the guy got all weird and wouldn't sell me anything. He said because of their partnership with Diamondback, he's not allowed to sell me any components of the kit separately, and I have to buy it directly from DB. I tried to reason with the guy, because I know they sell all of these components separately for other purposes, but he just kept giving me the run around. Pretty disappointing, to say the least. As for stock - he couldn't even tell me when DB would receive more. Just that "we try to restock them as fast as possible." I signed up for instock alerts on both the 2 bar and 3 bar kits through the DB website, but I simply can't wait months at this point.

Looking at Front Runner's site, most of the individual components aren't listed separately, so you literally can't buy them without calling (the only thing listed is the universal tracks, and they're out of stock anyway). So my advice if anyone is taking this route is to NOT mention that you're planning to install this on a DB cover, and just tell them it's for a custom camping trailer or something. I may give it a couple of days and call again, but if the rails are out of stock, it's probably a futile effort at this point anyway. I'm sure I'll just have to wait for the kit from DB. :(

Follow up to my situation: I emailed Front Runner today via their website, and told them I needed these components for a camping trailer. I received a quote back from them almost instantly, and I was able to complete the purchase by clicking on a link that accompanied the quote. Looks like all items were in stock, too (unless they email me again saying "oops... turns out we don't have this one item"). My setup has a total of 3 load bars. Here's what I ended up purchasing:

Anyone have any good long containers with dividers or sliding drawer ideas for my current set up? I’m not going for a “decked” system due to amount of space I would lose but more so a simple slide out containers. Any ideas or what would fit vertically with the Diamond back on and not moveable? The most interesting set up I found was du-ha tote but it opens up and i don’t think I would have enough to open without a full pull out. Any ideas?

Anyone with a short bed gen 3 able to answer this:

With a DB HD or SE installed on a SB can you squeeze a stock or AMP bed extender on?

It looks tight but doable. Would make the perfect combo for day to day bed security with the ability to throw longer stuff in when needed. Thanks!

I made the mistake when I inquired of saying this was for a DB... and they refused to even sell/quote me for the risers (I wanted shorter ones) until I took a picture of the rack (which I didn’t have/couldn’t buy because DB was out of stock). I just went and bought the Yakima stuff @xkyo23 did, rather than deal with a company like this.

I think you will love the Yakima set up much better! I know a few front runner rack users, they wanna switch over but wasted the money already :(

You have a picture of the voodoo rack height? I'm curious how close it would be to the cab height

Do you have a photo of the driver side? This is the type of setup I'm shooting for with the bed rack and roof rack (prinsu?). I have a DCLB as well

I ordered the kit direct from Diamondback, and it was missing alot of the FrontRunner hardware.. when I called DB they said I had to call FR.. Once I got in touch with FR they were quick to send me the remaining hardware needed to finish the install. I also had to call them again for another set screw (it started stripping) and FR Tool (it started bending).. All that said , I'm all setup and onto the next.. Feel free to check out my page on progress so far

If I ordered something from a company and it was missing parts but they told me to call someone else to resolve the issue I would have some words for them.

Good on Front Runner for coming through.

Similar experience. I reached out to Diamondback support and was told to contact Front Runner. Seemed odd to me as well. I purchased from Diamondback, that's who got my $$$, if there's an issue with the Front Runner stuff Diamondback sells Diamondback should reach out to them on my behalf, not me.

Turned out to not be a big issue and I'm extremely happy with both the Diamondback cover and the Front Runner kit. But the two of them need to get on the same page in terms of customer service.

I suspect its Diamondback not really knowing the Frontrunner configurations (i.e. I only got one set of mounting brackets and HW, even though I ordered 3 rails.) So they just need to do better partner training. I imagine their Operations having a bucket of FR Hardware bags and just throwing it together on the way out the door because I also got extra HW I didnt need.
