That makes sense. Sinking sounds pretty unfun, like ... what do you even do at that point? Not like you can just get out and push?

800 ought to be good for getting on the street. I have only ridden 250s historically. The Vulcan is a fatty so it offsets it some

    Every day.

I really want an off-shore boat with a cabin - living next to the ocean is really convenient for that kind of thing. Maybe 20-30 feet. I love deep sea fishing, I used to go all the time. We’d take the party boat out of Emeryville and head about 2 hours offshore right outside the Farallon Islands right off the continental plate.

Deep sea fishing is a whole different ball game than shore or freshwater fishing. Really fun stuff. We’d get like Ling cod, rock cod, salmon, etc.

I used a dead baby ling cod as bait once and I almost caught this four foot adult ling cod with it. But the god damn deckhand didn’t gaff it in time so I lost it.

YEah its no 600cc sport bike thats for sure. I had an ex girlfriend with a 750 honda cruiser something or another. It wasn't fast, but it had a bit more top end than my klr, which makes sense.

Swim away and hope no one notices

When I got stuck in the Bay we tried to push it out of the mud. I called the coast guard and they sent me to a commercial tow company.

$300 per hour or $1,500 total estimate. I sent it and got out of there but that would’ve been an expensive tow, far exceeding the value of the boat.

Something light but powerful, dual sport. One guy let me ride his Husky 701 a couple years ago. I didn't get the front wheel back on the ground till I was in 4th gear and spent the rest of the day grinning like an idiot. Lighter than my bike, more power, fuel injection - it was sweet.

After i got back he said 'yeah, you're shifting kind of low, go out again and shift at like 5k'. Jesus. I have no idea what speed I ended up at, all i know is the speed limit was like 50 km/h and I was definitely over it quick.

Other than that, I dunno. Maybe a bmw f800, although I fear the maintenance..

Yeah, thats rough. Whats the draft on that thing? We used to get my neighbors fishing boat stuck in the mud, but it was easy enough to pull up the motor and then push ourselves out with a paddle usually.

Haven't seen her in a couple years, but that answer was definitely yes back then.

Its one of the few things I miss about her.

Here's the spec sheet. I'd say maaaybe like 1-2' at most. I have a really uncommon hull design which was common to the 1970's but made obsolete - kinda - by the deep vee you see today. It's a tri hull, basically a hybrid between a pontoon boat and a deep vee.

The mud we got stuck in was really thick and really sticky nasty saltwater mud. We jumped into the tributary and tried to push ourselves out, but the prop was half buried. When I stuck it in full throttle we managed to escape.

I think my uncle's boat had a hull like that when I was a kid, age seems about right. Interesting how those designs evolve over time.

Yeah as long as you don't suck a bunch of mud into the cooling system, that should work. I guess you can get that prop up only so high though. Sometimes we'd shift people around the boat too trying to get it unstuck. Always a fun time.
