the point is to spend $500 on a hood that makes your slow inefficient 4.0L Tacoma have a new hood that is very slightly lighter than the stock thin flimsy hood
so that instead of 17mpg you get 17.000001mpg

You math is wrong. The improvement has been documented at 17.0001mpg. :p

I wrapped mine in carbon fiber vinyl. Clearcoat was fading and didnt feel like getting it painted. Protects from rock chips and the bugs wipe off alot easier.

For my purpose, it was about reducing as much weight as possible. Across the whole of the truck. The VIS hood is significantly lighter than OEM. Either I weighed the difference in the past, or someone else did on XRU. I want to say somewhere around 20 lbs lighter.

My focus was weight reduction for road course racing.

Yes. Tacomas can be race vehicles.

That’s pretty cool. I’m working on my window tinting skills right now but I will probably mess around with some wrap eventually.

I would have a carbon hood if seibon made one on my tacoma (2nd gen). The added benefit of less weight on the nose is always welcomed (better turn in, faster acceleration, you can tow/haul a tad more, better economy). Sadly in my case, there was a wait time when I was getting my hail damaged repaired so I i just had my hood resprayed. I will still get one if seibon decides to make one.

Well, I don't treat it well at all with waxing. That being said, the clear coat is peeling in small areas, but otherwise it is still doing fine.

Nearly three years later, and you do have a Seibon CF hood. I must admit, that their construction is better than that of VIS.

Yes sir, now if I can find a good body shop willing to take my money to paint my truck.

Is there anyone making a fiberglass hood w/o scoop? I've looked at what I can find with dumb google searches and am not finding any.
