I thought I read somewhere that 3rd gens are different. I know 2nd gens have 4 cats.

Mark, I have a different version of the URD Y pipe and exhaust, and I do not have my rear cats. I havent had any issues passing emissions or safety. I only really hear a "drone" is when I turn the truck on for the day to warm up. Its kinda loud. But after things warm up, its much quieter. Also I have my cab sound-deadened (except the floor and back doors)

I looked under my truck this morning to make sure, but turd gens have 4 cats also and the 2 rear ones would be going away with the URD Mark 2 y pipe.

I decided to go ahead and get the y pipe, it's too good a deal to pass up and about the same cost as a pipe reroute. @crashdb has dibs on it if I decide it doesn't work for me. I'll be picking it up this afternoon and hopefully get it installed this weekend. I was thinking about getting some header pipe wrap to insulate it but I don't have an ATF oil pan to worry about since it's manual. There's about 5 inches clear between the bottom of the cross member and the tranny, so hopefully it's far enough away to not cause any heat issues. I'll work around the pipe as needed when I fab up the gussets for the skid plate.
