    Not sure why big font.

9 years old??! I feel bad for his family. His dad should be horsewhipped for letting a 9 year old carry a shotgun without constant, proper supervision. Meaning dad doesn't carry a gun, just walks behind his son and never takes his eyes off him.
    IMO

Dad let me go with but I didn’t get a lethal firearm until I was at least 12 or so I think.

I had a 410 and 22 when I was 9 year old. But I was trained extensively in the use of firearms.

    My 7-year-old has shot a 5.56 ar15, 7.62x39 AK, multiple .22LRs including a single action revolver and my 6.5 Grendel ar15.

I will not let him handle firearms unsupervised.

I was the brush buster/bird dog for Dad and crew til I was ~10. Maybe 12. Then I got to carry a 20ga Ithaca pump loaded with 1 round at a time lol.

AT a younger age Dad taught me to shoot his .22 and not too long after was allowed to shoot by myself. But I could feel Dad's eyes watching my every move for a while. lol I have that Winchester model 74. My former brother has the Ithaca. o_O:mad:.

He did not like any of the recoil. His favorite is guns that look like "sniper rifles" lol.

I shot a .357 and a 30.06 at about that age too. Family friend took me to a pond that was loaded with turtles. He stood behind me as I sit and shot. It was awesome! I even hit a couple.
I don't think we had ear plugs. o_O

I shot my first one when I was 14. A .357 and a .22. I didn't shoot another one until I was 22 and I didn't get into guns until I was 30. I went hunting for the first time when I was 16, but didn't get anything. I got my first deer this past January at the young age of 36.

    Morning all.

I bought my boy his .22 when he was four, and a .223 last year at ten. He has shot my .22 pistol as well.

He has had all the safety rules beat into him since age three. He can shoot, and does it safely. He doesn’t, however, get to handle a loaded firearm until it is time to shoot when afield. The guns are in the safe otherwise, except a pistol or two.

When I got him the .22, the mom in law about lost her mind. I asked her if she thought I just handed him the rifle and ammo and said go have fun? That’s essentially what she had in her mind. I asked my son the safety rules, he rattled them off to her disbelief.

Nothing wrong with kids shooting, but it has to be done with supervision and control at all times.
