Best Wheel Size

Will be on a 2011 DC short bed TRD SPORT.

Looking for the best wheel dimensions to run 265/70/17. thanks in advance.

backspacing and such. i know i shouldn't need spacers, but if you suggest them, might i ask why?

 

Your factory wheels are 5.5" backspacing. They will fit 265/70/17's. If your looking at aftermarket wheels, 4-5" backspacing is ideal.

 

Anywhere between 4.5 and 5.5" is fine for backspacing. The lower the number, the more the wheels will stick out.

 

Hey KPT, you have a similar setup running to what i would like to do. First did your setup rub before lift with your larger tires? and second does backspacing matter when it comes to rubbing issues, or just is it cosmetic?

FYI this is my first like customizing on a car, so of course i am over researching im sure. thanks for the help.

 

No rubbing before lifting with my 32" tires.

The backspacing plays a huge part in rubbing. In the backspacing is too high, your tires will rub on the UCA and/or the cab mounts. If the backspacing is too low, the tires will sit out too far and rub the fender while turning.

 

So stay between 4.5 and 5.5 and i should be just fine? Would 5.5 be better than 4.5? any other specs i should worry about to prevent rub?

 

If you just want to run 32's then anywhere between 4.5 and 5.5 is fine (4.5 will sitkc out further). If you think you might want to run 285's some day, then get the 4.5" BS.

 

what about offset? what is a safe range or ideal offset. for say a 4.5 backspacing..

 

Offset is calculated by using backspacing and wheel width, so it depends how wide the wheel is.

 

So basically a 8 wide will be best for offset, and a 9 wide might create and offset and affect possible handling? im confused.

a goal of 0 offset it best?

 

Wheel width won't affect handling in the slightest.

What you want is a wheel with proper backspacing, which is calculated by using offset AND width.

For example, for a 4.5" backspaced wheel (ideal for running 285's):
If the wheel is 8" wide, the offset is 0mm
If the wheel is 9" wide, the offset is -12mm

Backspacing is the important thing here. The chart just helps if the specs for the wheel list offset instead of backspacing.

 

How would this work? i think ive found them in a +18mm offset too...

^ where do you see +18 offset? It says -12 offset in your quote.

For a 9" rim, -12 offset is 4.5 BS, so you are good to go.

From this site gives a choice. Is there a noticeable difference from the two, -12, +18??

 

Oh sorry I didn't notice the "too" in your above post.

There's a big difference between -12mm and +18mm. The -12's stick out 1.25 inches more than the +18. Don't get the +18, they will sit further in the stock wheels and your tires will rub, no matter if they are 265's or 285's.
