I finished my e-locker swap yesterday. What should I do with the old axle? 216,000 miles, 4:10 gears, hub to hub, includes the rear section of the parking brake cable. No known issues, has synthetic 75-90 oil in it, brake shoes are serviceable, bell cranks move freely. Is it worth bothering with trying to sell it or should I just haul it to the scrap yard? Any idea what it is worth? TIA.

I think it would sell if you list it reasonable, junk yards don't give a whole lot of money for stuff like that it seems, but they ask for a fortune if you want it back from them.

You can try to sell or give it away.

Maybe some one local has a rusted out housing.

All depends if you have a local market

Look up ECGS they will buy the center section, last I checked they were paying in excess of four bills.

Post it up here in the for sale section.

Are you willing to band it to a pallet and ship it common carrier ??

Why would ECGS want to buy a regular axle housing for $400.00 and pay the freight as well??

I could gather up 10 and make a road trip to North Carolina.

I would be willing, but I am not able. Not even sure I could get it loaded into my truck to take it to a freight dock & pay someone to put it on a pallet. On a side note, can anyone tell me how the titleof this thread got changed? Original title was "Advice Wanted"

They don't want the whole housing just the center section,
    they rebuild them for exchanges.

Just throwing this out there too that I had to pay 400 bux for a rear end back in the early '80s.
I wouldn't junk it if I had somewhere to stash it.

It is better in any case, the title of the thread now is much more descriptive and indicative of the thread's content.

Post it for $350, if it's the shape you say then you should get between $250 and $300. Give your self some negotiation room. I sold one 2 days after posting and one about 6 months after posting. But it will sell.

Agreed it is a better title. Just curious how it got changed.

Thanks for all the replies. I will contact ECGS tomorrow & see what they say, then decide which way to go. Any tutorials on how to remove the third? Timmah?

his video on replacing the rear bearings will get you started, once axles are out, all the bolts around third member facing front of truck hold it in.

Axles coming out are not a problem either, the 4 bolts under the flange and it all comes out in one swoop, brake backing plates, brakes.

you'll get more selling it all. Somebody is or will e needing one soon. No place to hold onto it?
