BTW, I also learned that you cannot flash the Maestro RR module while it is connected to your stereo. I had to unplug all the harnesses so that the module would be recognized by my laptop. Took me a while to figure out why my laptop wasn't recognizing the module. Tried 3 different cables and uninstalling weblink software, restarting my laptop, and reinstalling weblink.

The only wires I think carry the steering wheel controls is the black 4-pin "data" harness that connects to the RR module and the back of the Pioneer headunit. I don't see any other wires that would carry the steering wheel controls.

Yeah that's really annoying. Not sure why they don't allow that. On my original Halo9 install I put a USB extention on the maestro thinking I was all smart and wouldn't have to remove everything... until I tried it.

So I called technical support for idatalink maestro. They told me the harness that says "ADS-HRN TO2 ver2.00" on it is supposed to be connected to a harness coming from my truck. He said I would have four large maestro harnesses connected to 4 harnesses coming out of my truck. I do not see a 4th large harness coming out of my truck. What am I missing here???

Nevermind, found the 4th harness coming out of the truck buried deep down in the darkness of the dash. The steering wheel controls work now. Feel like a dope.

Nah, don't feel like a dope. I've said it before, the instructions suck. Glad you got it working.

Got the firmware updated from v1.13 to v1.3 too. I thought it wasn't reading the USB thumb drive with the new firmware because it took about 3-4 minutes before it finally came up with the option to update. I think the firmware file was over 200MB. So I guess it takes a while to read a file that large.

So question, I have a Samsung S9+ on Android 10. When I connect to the Pioneer via WiFi for wireless Android Auto my phone is not connecting to my mobile data so Google Maps, Pandora, Spotify, etc. aren't getting data. How do I get wireless Android to work via WiFi and get my phone to connect to my mobile data plan so I can use these apps?

I didn’t have that issue but I was using a Mac also. Not sure if that makes a difference.

When you all turn on your truck (after previously turning it off with CarPlay on) does the radio default to the Apple car play screen? For some reason my phone connects but I have to manually click the home button and then select CarPlay to get the the CarPlay screen (with all the app icons, maps, now playing, etc.). I haven’t done the VSS fix yet so I’m thinking that might be the issue. Thanks!

Strangely the answer is...sometimes. It often defaults to CarPlay but other times the phone connects but the unit defaults to the Pioneer screen. I thought it might default to CarPlay if the ignition was turned off while something was playing but this doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern.

I'll never understand why car radios (which we use almost every day) are always so poorly implemented, slow, with bad interfaces. This model is one of the better ones, I'll give it that, but still weird user interface choices, sluggish response in the Pioneer default mode, difficult to update software (I haven't been able to update through phone still), etc.

So after browsing the world wide web, it appears that this annoying feature came about with Android 10. So you have to go into an additional setting and individually force each app to always use mobile data instead of WiFi. Kind of annoying because when i get home and my phone connects to WiFi i don't want to have to go back into that setting and unforce the mobile data setting. But i digress, i have unlimited mobile data so i'll just leave Google Maps, Pandora, Spotify, YouTube, and some other apps to always use mobile data.

You've got to be kidding. So annoying. Someone needs to die. Well, maybe just get demoted, that might be a little extreme.

Yeah, updates are ridiculously complicated. Should just be able to pull direct when connected to WiFi

and that totally sucks about android and mobile data. Rough.

Well I’m getting closer to being done with my install. I’ve testing out the various functions. All good except for the infamous CarAVAssist, which I now realize must stand for Always Vexing!:pccoffee::notsure::frusty:

IN A SIMPLE WORD YES! During my days of active service, I remember knocking TV stations, radio stations, and the like offline with the radars from the ships. It was mandatory that we entered EMCON when nearing the port, just for this reason. Commercial radar is no different. It seriously FXXXXs with most of the EM Band when near the source, but not nearly as bad as the ships did :muscleflexing:
