    Hey all
I have a DMM on the way and I’m planning my install. Before I pull the bezel, I had a question about wire routing

all of my button spaces on the lower dash are filled - so I don’t have a blank to drill through to route the data/charge cable back through the dash. I was wondering if there is enough room inside the bezel such that I could cut a notch in the bottom, use small 3m adhesion wire clips around the inside perimeter of the bezel, and then route the cable out at the top? I searched through a bunch of threads here but didn’t find an example

    thanks!

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I may feel stupid after hearing the answer, but what is a "DMM"?

I HATE acronyms - folks throw them around like EVERYBODY knows what they stand for.

Sorry - it’s this. There are a bunch of threads on here about it so I assumed folks might be familiar with it:

What I did was above the wireless phone charging pad, in the top left corner, pushed up on the plastic and made enough of a gap I was able to get the phone end of my lightning cable through, then routed my cable up through there to the dmm notch. Doesn’t look 100% clean, but better than wires hanging in front of the radio. And I don’t like cutting anything if it’s not necessary. I’ll get a pic in a few minutes.

Thanks! - did you have to pull anything else out route the wire? (I.e. the radio head unit) or could you get to it once the bevel was off? (As you can tell I haven’t pulled mine yet)

I did pull the 4 bolts that hold the head unit and pulled it out enough to get my hand down to grab the cable. Didn’t unplug anything though.

I bought a longer wire and drilled a small hole through the bottom of the center console to plug into the cigarette lighter there. Super clean.

I thought about that as well - would
Need to find the right location. I have a box of grommets, I’m sure I could make one fit. Original idea was to use one of the switch blanks, but I realized I didn’t have any. I also want to use CarPlay, so I need to get to the USB as opposed to the lighter.

That console light is in a horrible position. Always glows in my rearview mirror.

Buy a switch blank online and just have the USB tucked behind the dash

I considered that as well. My only concern is there are times I've used CarPlay from my wife's phone while still having mine in the cradle.

It's a small hole, I am considering just drilling it above left or right of the USB socket. I am assuming there is plenty of room to avoid hitting another wire harness with the drill bit?

Here’s what I ended up doing. I drilled a hole above the USB socket upwards in to the dash. Routed the cable (used an Apple cable as the head is smaller than the Anker ones, and will hopefully avoid the USB errors.). Pulled the head unit, plenty of room to get a hand in there to grab the wire. Routed it behind the head unit and out of one of the wire holes in the DMM. I have grommets on both ends, but need to get them in to the holes a bit better. I use one of those little nite eze ties to keep the cable in place when not in use

Ended up using an existing medium length Ram mount arm. May need to consider the short version.

Really happy with how it turned out. DMM was a really straightforward install and I wrapped it all up during a lunch break.

Another option would be to reroute the cable behind the panel like you did, and replace the USB plug, leaving the original behind the front panel. You will connect your phone charging cable to the original USB, and add a new USB at the front for other uses.
there would not be any cables visible at all except on top.

Nice. I thought about that. But I've had times where other folks have plugged in to use CarPlay.

Out of curiosity, what's involved in popping out the USB port? do you need to pop it out forward, then remove the USB socket from the plate, then push the socket/hole back in to the dash?

I assume the two usbs you have there are power only and not tapped in to the CarPlay connection? If so, what did you tap in to and where did you get the dual socket?

You are correct in all. Pop the socket out forward, mine is still tied with zip ties in the back. No carplay for me, so it is just power.
I got the new USB socket from Amazon, something similar to this, and eliminated the original socket.
