I bought the 6-speed and then learned to drive a manual. I love it. Never heard of any problems with the manual and I haven't had any since buying the truck. Has anybody installed the TRD short-throw kit? Just wondering if its worth it or not?

I love my 6-speed, though it makes talking on the phone a pita! I'm the second owner of my '06 TRD Sport. The previous owner had a new clutch at 79,000mi. and I'm at 116,000 and there doesn't seem to be any problems, though I am gonna look up the tob tsb just to see what I should worry about:D.

BTW...what causes this rpm hangup? I noticed it, but it didn't worry me enough to keep thinking about it!!:notsure:

I love mine, wouldn't trade it. I don't know that it feels any different than the 1999 that I sold to buy it, despite what I've read so far, so maybe I'm just used to it. I like having a truck that other people can't just jump in and drive anyway, one more reason to not let anyone else drive my truck.

My first car was an auto, and everything else has been a manual since. I even bought a 1973 610 that I'm converting.

I love mine. I've always preferred manuals over auto for many reasons. The are only 3 draw backs. #1 and #2 are the fact that 1st and 6th are a little short as others have mentioned. Note that I said a LITTLE short, hardly a bother, but if you want me to nitpick something I'll take those. The other is the TOB issue. It hasn't hit me yet at 1700 miles, but it seems there is a TSB for it as well as an aftermarket sleeve fix that is easy to put on while doing a clutch/pressure plate replacement. Since I'm planning on driving this thing for 20 years, one extra $200 part isn't that big of a deal to me. I'm sure the gas mileage gain over the years will pay for it. No, i don't have any proof that my new Taco gets better mileage with a manual than an auto, but I have had that experience in previous cars and trucks. Not to mention the longer life of the tranny itself and cheaper replacement costs if and when it does fail.

Plus it's fun, more controllable, and my girlfriend can't drive it. :)

Also, I have no problems with the throttle hang. I have the TRD short throw, and while at first, it was certainly different than my old ranger, once you get used to it, it's awesome. The throttle hang and the short throw actually make for smoother quicker shifts. It's simply a matter of knowing how to drive a stick and getting used to the particular one you have.

lol x2. I have my the Tundra today and am used to driving a stick, got in and (i normally put the clutch to the floor pretty fast) so of course I about snap my ankle smashing into the floor down below. every so often i catch myself "pressing the clutch pedal" when i drive my parents car.

I love stick. Will probably own a stick the rest of my life.

first gear to short? first is great for crawling like it should be. i take off from a start half the time in second. plus if your towing/hauling heavy it makes take off easy. the only complaint i have is 6th gear is to short. i'd like more mpg's on the h/w. the motors got the torque for it.

Have you tried turning the plunger on the clutch? Mine started doing that all at once this past summer, it was terrible. The plunger seemed to be able to freely rotate about a quarter turn. Don't remember which way I turned it, but after messing around with it once it's been good to go again ever since.

My old 88 4Runner was a stick and I loved it...after putting around 300,000 miles on the truck it still shifted smooth and never had a clutch problem (still had the original.) I almost decided to get another one this time around... glad I went with the automatic.
