Admittedly all those old Japanese trucks didn't weight much and were geared low. So power wasn't as crucial. But still....most were under 100 hp. I remember when the 3.0 came out and we were all like...."wow, 150hp!". But in reality it was much of an improvement. We used to call them the "3 point slow".

One of the first vehicles I learned to drive in was a 1997 Ford F350 7.3l Power Stroke. That thing could pull three Chevys on a trailer up a hill doing 80 and get 19mpg while doing it. It was also a full size truck with a large diesel. I don't expect that out of my small pickup I use to haul a motorcycle, lumber, or camping supplies.

3/60 air conditioning. Open all three windows and drive 60mph.

There was something so fun about such simple, versitle pickups.

Yeah Toyota trucks have always been slow. Even the tundra isn’t fast . It’s just not slow.

I miss those simple trucks. My '86 B2000 had nothing but the optional rear bumper. My '89 B2200 had A/C and sliding rear window. I thought I had "arrived".

Right?!? And the stupid shit I did in those trucks. My 88 Hardbody spent a good percentage of it's life airborne.

Of course it blew the head gasket at 120k miles... But that was considered normal for that D21 motor.

My '86 B had no radio. I went down to Western Auto and bought that $19.99 Spark-o-matic AM/FM cassette radio/2 speaker deal. I was living the dream!

Haha, I couldn't afford one either! I had to go to the stereo show at the downtown convention center, and buy a Swap-meet-Louie knockoff,,,,, boy I thought I was cool,,,, I'm sure looked like super Dbag carrying my shitty stereo with me. Hahaha

I had a 1982 4x4 with the 22r, had to draft trucks on the highway to get above 60-65,,,, that's no booshit too!
