    Depends on the manufacturer.

    For example:

    RCI - you need the straps with the studs

    Victory - you don't need the straps with the studs

    Check out which tank skid you like and see how they mount.

    How good is the plastic skid plate? Is it actually functional / durable or more of a vanity piece?

    I’d rather have it than not. At least there is something between road debris and the fuel tank. For the farm and gravel roads around here (to include deep muddy ruts) I have yet to put a scratch on it. Oh, yeah - if won’t rust like the old ones. To tell the truth I am more concerned about the exhaust crossover pipe.

    The rust issues with the earlier gens when an entire frame needs to be replaced is a lot worse than a fuel pump recall.

    I’m not sure how the idea that plastic and composite materials are less durable than steel takes root here. While this certainly can be the case, based on design, it’s not an absolute truth just because of the different materials.

    When was the last time you saw a bullet proof vest made out of steel? or for that matter airplane wings?, or yadda yadda.

    Plastics and composites can be as strong as they want them to be. Is there a rash of punctured Tacoma gas tanks on this site? I’ve not seen any. Maybe that plastic skid plate Toyota put on there deforms and bounces back, rather than bending into the fuel tank and rupturing it like steel plate might?

    I dunno........just felt like ranting! Carry on.

    We all tell ourselves this. Your time will come. The only perfect Tacomas were early-model-year 2017s like mine.

    This was recently added. I check every month. My 2020 was mfg 9/2019 in Mexico. Looks like I made the cut off. AHHH

    I'll give it an extra month so they get practice doing this job.

    Same thinking here :rofl: when I tried to have mine scheduled but they cancelled and I was informed that there’s no “remedy “ yet. At least they get a lot more practice before doing ours :thumbsup:.

    You got lucky. Mine is a 2017 too but was included. When I opened my Geico app , I got the alert there also. Seems Geico App has car fax alert Built in. Anyway, there’s no “remedy “ yet so I’ll just have to wait. No issues so far.

    Does anyone know if this recall affects 2021’s being made? The concern I have for mine currently being made is:
    1. Toyota is still installing these faulty pumps in current builds and;
    2. If the fix is done are affected taco owners under the recall still waiting for their fix as ‘no remedy’ is still in play? and;
    3. If the fix is in, (no pun intended) does it stall production of new vehicles to service to recall?

    Yes and no, I took it in and it’s an evap code and they checked what they could but could not drop my tank since it was more then half full. So I have to get the fuel level down and take it back for a full evap check.

    My 2017 (build date march 2017) also shows No Recalls. Owning a vehicle from moment 1 and therefore knowing for a fact it's entire service / maintenance / recall / repair history is comforting. Does it offset the huge cost differential compared to buying same vehicle a few years old/used..... that's up to the individual buyer.

    I had mine replaced on Friday. I noticed the truck seems a lot more responsive now. It's accelerating a lot better than it was before.
