Maybe I should ask in the 1rd and 2st Gen but since I have a 3nd Gen, start with it here:rofl::D

So I did my 1st oil change a couple weeks back, a real newbie with all my gear. Went smooth truck still runs like a champ.:taco::rimshot:

One thing I haven't mentioned is I had bought a Fumoto with all the accessories. But I never installed it. Valve, positive close clips, etc Parts back in box.

You see I chickened out completely. That brass valve just hanging down in the breeze scares me. I actually have had rocks break off breathers and damage stuff on other trucks. Being in the business you would think I know of cases of people smashing and destroying the valve, worse shearing and dumping 6+ quarts of hot earl. I am NOT joking that damned thing hangs past the crossmembers.

Has this happened? Should I not worry?

This is what Google yielded (WARNING CLOWN SHOW):

There’s been only one guy I can recall on this forum over the years that hit his valve on a rock, and it bent his oil pan. The valve didn’t break, or leak a drop.

If it hangs lower than something in front of it, it would be wise to not install it IMO. I'm a fan of those valves, they are quality products than are actually useful, but not if they can be damaged or impacted by anything. Especially for off road.

There are a few variations that fit, make sure you buy the short one if you think you might drive over things.

I considered a valve however this scared me along with it failing and opening and draining my oil.

In been reassured that the valve won’t open even with the plastic lock but I’m old fashioned and I will continue to use a drain plug and new washer every time, nothing against the fumoto valve.

Humanity has been developing the safe and reliable drain plug for about 400 years. Not sure I’m onboard with the Fumoto valve. The risk, however slight, is not worth the convenience, in my mind at least.

Have had a fumoto valve for about 8 years.... never a problem cause it’s above the crossmember, which would get hit before the fumoto valve would

I’m guessing the people questioning the fumoto don’t have skids?

Damn! Seeing how the pan is on the 3.5 V6, bending seems............unlikely. I am unsure how the clown in the video broke his, but I quit watching when he was pouring oil in.

Since we are no topic, does anybody know if the new OVTune Higher capacity oil pan extends way past the stock one? My truck is not lifted and is at stock height. While I do not go off-roading *(road use vhicle only), I just wanted to ask if this could allow me to also later put a steel skid plate.
Thank you! I haven't seen any pictures from anyone who has installed one of these, and also don't know how much longer it is.

Likely above the crosssmember. It's definitely not wider than the bolt pattern. Must be longer though
