I used to have a bedford rascal. Mine was red. I think it was 939cc, 39hp, inline 4

My 16 with the latest Toyota ECU calibration is worlds better than it was before. Going over an overpass at 75, sure it will kick down a gear. No constant shifting while cruising, anymore. MPG went up about 1.5-2mpg, too. First full tank since update in avg 20.3 with 75% city driving.

You can try. I'm pretty much the best, though. Going to be hard.

. . . and how could you possibly know that it has a shit drivetrain, when you don't drive one daily (according to your signature)? And why would you be trolling in the TW forums when you do not own a Tacoma? Let me make a guess. You used to own Tacoma (1st or 2nd gen?), test drove a 3rd gen (maybe owned one briefly) and hated it. Now you own a POS GMC and have buyers remorse. Am I close? BTW, what's your GMC's service advisor's first name?

    Mostly dust and dirt.
I live in California. Traffic on the freeway usually travels between 75 and 85.
I have no problem keeping up with traffic.
Maybe you don’t know how to drive.

Yeah idk can we just start banning members with these posts? It was a learning curve but i have been driving 2 hours to work and 2 hours home the last month and a half all highway and my normal commute is 45 minutes each way. (Job locations change this time of year until spring). Ignore the Rpms with responsibility of course, but just mash the gas these trucks will pick up once you hit their sweet spot believe it or not. I do get what you’re saying but this subject has been beat to death on this forum. Maybe put a piece of computer paper over the tach and have it set to 2500 rpm so it doesn’t bother you. Not trying to be a dick but not only should you test drive a vehicle worth 40k but also do some research. Even if you don’t research I could tell you it was a dog 100ft from the place it was parked at the dealership. Please just trade it in.

Now I wonder how many revs I've used up... and how many I may have left. Will I just be reving to 2800 one day and run out? Will the low revs light come on before that?

I think these threads are good data points, assuming they’re legit and not trolling. Don’t click if you don’t want to read them.

The vast majority of members here would love to see an improvement made to this truck as far as the engine/trans goes. For those that don’t outright hate it, even the “yeah, it’s quirky but...” wing of the party would love to see improvements made.

Hopefully Toyota pays attention and makes the truck better? I’d love to see improvements go beyond a TSB in the next gen.

    this and that...
manual trans. i bought two quads (20 recon and 21 rubicon) few months back and the truck had no issue blasting through the elevation up mauna kea to get back home.

and lets be honest. the 4.0 wasnt superior to the 3.5 in power delivery. i had two 2nd gens (08 xrunner, 13 trd or) and in terms of mods they were built pretty similar to the sport i have now. the 2nd gens had trd intake, trd s/s, doug thorley headers, urd ypipe, custom 2.75" exhaust with fm super 44s. my sport has sb intake, hurst s/s, urd ypipe, trd exhaust, 92 prem sfob stacked with sb. they were all equally fun to drive, but the sport feels quicker without a shadow of a doubt. my friend still has his boosted xr so once i put some whine on my sport ill line up with him and see what that boosted life is all about.

Same here. Reasons purchasing a Tacoma is it never sees garage repair and looks alone it is the best looking truck on the market

I'm so happy you love the way your Tacoma drives, but mine is an under powered pig !
