People aren't afraid of Fumoto Valves off or even on road?

Got one on mine love it sure it’s slower but during that time I swap oil filter, grease all the zerks, check other fluids, and tire pressures. I’ve never had a fear of it making contact with anything thru the skid.

I also just threw on an EZ Valve with the hose fitting last weekend. It still doesn't stick out below the popcan skid plate. Between that and the Motivx filter drain I am so excited to never have a messy oil change again. And yeah the 0W-20 comes out of the pan with the quickness. Anyone who is worried about it failing and dumping 6 qts of oil on the highway clearly doesn't understand how a ball valve works. I also put one on my LJ and if you're concerned about clearances then that thing is way more exposed and I'm still not terribly concerned about it.

I came here to say the same thing. If you're going to swap out your drain plug, there are better options than the Fumoto.

Here is another one: (note: this particular link may not be the right size.)

Oh that pesky little drain plug is so hard to remove and having to do it every 5,000 miles or so.

The opening in my skid plate is small, i can't even fit my hand in there. Don't want oil splashing on top of the plate where its hard to clean up

A lot of guys like the full experience of changing their own oil. Crawling around on the ground, getting oily, using tools ,etc.. thats fine, they're not in a rush, they enjoy it.

I wrench for a living, any mod that lets me work on my own truck quicker/easier without handling tools is better. After I work on other peoples cars all day.. I want my own maintenance to get done fast so I can go home

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
Is a bolt really that hard to use? 35 years changing oil in lots and lots of cars ... never once did I say "gee, this little bolt is way to complicated to use 3x a year.

For me, I fuckin hate oil. I hate the mess. I brake clean out my oil drain pans and wipe em out. That's how much I hate oil. So if this lil plugs makes life easier and saves a mess, I'm all for it. It's not about not knowing how to operate a bolt. It's doing it easier and better

Personal preference really. Once I get back into commuting 100 miles per day round trip (pray every single day that doesn;t happen...but...) I'll be thankful for the little valve. And I'm 50. Been driving/changing oil in dirt bikes, lawn mowers, cars, trucks and all kinds of things. Again, it's simply personal preference and how I use my money and my time.

I'm curious about how the gadget makes the oil change "better"?

I'll admit, I'm not a fan of a oil drain valve on a mobile power plant, stationary engines absolutely.

I'm in the camp of using the plug. I can see how the change would be marginally easier because you don't need a wrench. I've changed oil for many years and have learned the technique to remove plug and remain clean.

Thats the thing.. the technique of pulling the drain plug out and away doesn't work so well when you're reaching through a small hole in the skid-plate

If you don't have a skid with a small access hole, its hard to see the advantage of the fumoto

If you have a skid, it makes sense

For me, better means faster. My hose is in the drain pan, draining the engine while I'm draining the oil filter. Better means absolutely no mess, yeah you can keep pressure on the threads of the drain bolt but there's always a lil that gets on your gloves. Better means not ever replacing the plug gasket.

What I like is the ability to connect the hose and direct the oil into my drain pan. To me, that feature makes it worth while. The mechanism seems secure, and it you have reservations, a two cent zip-tie will ensure that there's no chance of the lever "unlocking". That said, the drain-plug works well, and is proven technology.

Don't even need a drain pan. Just a hose and a big enough jug that you screw the cap on and drive to the store with.

Job done. It's okay to do a job smarter.

Been putting this off for too long. Ill end up ordering it.

Like others have stated if you're running a skid with the drain hole it makes sense to get. Stock you have room to move yourself around to avoid oil for the most part.

Now this with the motivx or whatever front would make things just more clean...still gotta drop my skid to do the filter. But once every 10k gives me a reason to check out under the skids

I have the short version and its protected by an RCI skidplate. I also have the little plastic latch guard although I'm not convinced its worth the extra effort.

I use my truck to support trophy truck races and those rugged tracks would surely show any flaw in a valve design pretty quick with all the deep sand, etc. Not one issue has been had.

Not real hard to make coffee in the morning but I bet you own a coffee maker. Its clean , faster and convenient. If you love your plug keep it and if you lose one you could borrow one from an old 1903 Ford. They used them back then because in those days it was modern.
Most hate or are scared of new things or advances in technology a lot of people hated cars as a horse and buggy was good enough for grandpa so its good enough for me.

Ability to connect a hose to the drain and guide it into an oil pan, etc. If you have a skid plate with a tiny drain hole like the RCI skid does, it makes the job 100 times cleaner
