I've been on the lookout for a good deal on a newer Taco with lower mileage, and I found one in the form of a 2016 DC TRD Sport, but I'm concerned it's a little too good, so I'm looking to you all for some advice, throw some red flags, anything.

It's being sold from a Nissan Dealership, so I have the whole carfax. Here is the listing, which contains pics and a link to the carfax so you can review for yourselves. It's got 38k miles and they're asking $31.9k. This is a lot lower than a lot of the 3rd gens with low mileage that I've been seeing.

Here are the things that stand out to me
    • Originally sold from Rochester, NY so my first concern obviously is rust.
    • "Minor damage reported to rear" in 2018 between 15k and 22k miles.
    • Clutch replaced in May 2020 at 34k miles - this seems really early to replace a clutch to me.
    • Sold from an auction in Rochester to the Nissan Dealership in September - should I be concerned that it was sold from an auction?
    • Cloth interior, heated seats (window sticker lists it as Graphite w/ Gun Metal) - WERE there heated cloth seats in 2016, and is that interior shown correct?
So am I right in being suspicious, or does this look like it could be a good deal (as long as there's no rust).

Additionally, Are there any other concerns with the 2016 since it was the first year into the new gen? And is there a thread that breaks down all the incremental changes throughout the years (if any) for 3rd gens? I know that 2020 received a small facelift and Apple CarPlay, but don't know if there's anything beyond what wikipedia tells me that I should know about.

I bought my 2016 DCLB TRDOR w/premium pkg about a year ago with 59XXX on the clock for around 31k best i can remember, its a rare trim in the color white around here. It also had "minor front end damage" reported. Ive looked a couple times and cant find anything, i dont even think about it anymore.

It also has cloth and factory heated seats. I beleive mine has the "black" interior with the orange trim around the a/c vents and radio.

If it checks out i wouldnt be worried.

FWIW my girl friend bought a super clean 2019 TRD OR 4runner with 19k miles with a clean CarFax from a Honda Dealership back in July...for the grand price of......30k. I think some dealers just dont know what they have.

Manual transmission saves you at least one issue from the start. Seems a bit high to me though for something with that many miles and an accident under it's belt but prices on these trucks can be crazy.
Yeah seems like premium/tech had heated seats.

I just pulled it up on TIS. It had a 4 wheel brake job done, when the clutch was done. Water pump was replaced and front cover resealed at that time as well. Looks like according to the dealer, the truck was in for a blindpot issue and there was damage on the rear bumper and tailgate. My bet is they back into something. I see that all the time. And the price looks good. We have been selling them for 3-4K more then that here.

Seats are the correct ones. Heated seats was part of the Dual Zone Climate option.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
The disadvantage of buying a Tacoma now (in the Northeast) is that new ones are scarce. This is driving up the price of used. I've got an '06 TRD OR AC M/T with 126K miles I'd be glad to pas along for a third of that price.

What issue is that? Actual problem with the Auto trans, or just that autos like to search?
Appreciate you pulling it up. They responded to my 20 questions email and said they backed into a pole. How do you do that with back up sensors and camera? Although having backed up one of these things once, I definitely had a lot of re-learning to do to look at the center console instead of the mirrors.
Good eye. Now that I've seen that I noticed that taillight is broken.
Yeah, I've seen absurd prices. I may as well buy new.

Sounds like it could be worth the look as long as they'll repair the tail light. I think the biggest question is if I can live with the rear sliding window being manual rather than automatic.

The auto drives some people crazy, others not so much. I prefer to skip the whole fiasco.

so the previous owner didn't seat the tailgate properly, opened it bending the corner, then punched the tail light in a fit of rage!

Ah, yeah that makes sense. I've just always preferred manual, but I'm not interested in making this another one of THOSE threads. I'm sure one will come along shortly.
Yeah I thought it was pretty bizarre. Must have rode that clutch hard.
    This sounds most logical.

They sent me some videos. The tonneau cover has some tears, and the sliding window being manual is just enough for me to justify not dropping that amount of cash on the truck, so FYI if anyone is looking for a 3rd gen with low miles - this one's still on the market! Thanks for your help everyone.

The heated cloth seats were part of the premium and tech package so that means it has a sunroof too

Sounds like an ok deal but nothing amazing since there is damage history. Inspect the frame very well, especially under the engine and near the cat. If it was bought at auction it may be a Canadian sold vehicle, too. Nothing wrong with that, just good to know as far as getting service history records and such since your will have to go through Toyota Canada. If it has auto climate control, expect it to read temp in celsius. So far I have not found any useful info on if or how it can be changed to fahrenheit.
