Just got back from RedHill for the fuel pump recall, took a few hours to do from the looks of things. Penciled in for 9:30 and it was done by and ready for pickup at 2pm.
The one tech kept calling my truck a Tundra :anonymous: I know i'm a bit taller on off-sized tires, but i swear i'm on stock suspension

I haven’t replaced my pump, and won’t be at Toyota Dumberships. I’ll be requesting to provide me parts and taking care when it fails eventually. Over 120K on original pump so far.

My last visit for the rack replacement at 50K mark ended up with lots of missing bolts and disconnected harness leading to front diff actuator.

oh figured by your old message you had it done. the Recall system is strange atm since Toyota won't release the fuel pump to the owners of the vehicles. the pump's serial number or some shit is tied to the stealership you go to as well as attached to your VIN. So getting one within a warranty but without having a Toyota Tech do it, won't be fun.

but geeze, you had that many issues? I'm about to crawl under the truck anyways so i might as well take a look under and see if i'm missing a spare tire or something.

I’ve got pretty well established name in the “Toyota Warranty” department :D

Better always check, warranty hours are different in terms of pay to a technicians, so they do hack/cut some corners.

idk, probably just some light oil coating to get the hoses back on. it's not gas as i scrapped some off and tried to light it on fire and nothing happened and it didn't smell like gasoline.

but figured to take a look at it anways. if there is a puddle in the driveway in the morning - then its going to be fun.

Nope, Snapped that photo myself a few hours after i got it back today.
around when i posted that comment

    i actually considered that
then i decided against that since it didn't smell like gasoline but didn't flow away like water.

but then i tried the "does it light on fire?" test

I would check filler neck, there is stories of them jacking bed VS dropping fuel tanks and breaking filler necks.

There is no way they lifted my bed for this one. especially not with the backrack and the electrical i did for it, as well as my RCI skidplates covering 2 of the bolts, they don't have the sanity to move all of that stuff out.

the tank was certainly dropped for the recall so i'll check out the filler neck tomorrow then. i poured in a can of gas while at the dealership and didn't smell anything pouring out.

Hopefully it was just lubricant put on to make the hose slide on easier... regardless it should have been wiped up before it came off the hoist -

yeah that's my initial guess, that it was to simply lubricate the hose to get it on. it felt like a really light oil that flows quickly but not like water would. I just want to know how much was used to the point it ran down the side of the tank and dripped onto the plastic skidplate.
    IMG_20201109_172149655_HDR.jpg

until it becomes an issue, i've not had any driving problems today yet.

Might be silicone spray. I use it for installing hoses and electrical connectors.

Meso's build thread shows him upgrading the pump as part of the twin turbo kit. The job doesn't look that bad on a lift - just drop the front half of the tank to access. Everything is plastic so no issues with corrosion. I'll do it next year. Figure by then the technician will have done enough to reduce the chance for errors.

Anyone else looking to get it done: If you have an aftermarket fuel tank skid, remove it before going in.

KY... That's so old school... There are lots of fun new lubricants that won't make your hose go limp or disintegrate afterwards...
I work on big CAT Loaders and Mining trucks and over the years have seen a few people whimper trying to push a hose on without enough lube...
