Dunlop AT20's

Anyone else here really liking these tires. I only wish they were the 265-70-16's.........some day.

 

They weren't the worst tire I've had but I didn't like the way they handled. Sometimes I swore the truck wasn't going to stop or the tires weren't gripping going around corners. I upgraded to the Hankook Dynapro ATM's (265/75r16's) and love them. Much better handling. I was also a little afraid of the AT20's with our NJ snowstorms. I travel a lot of roads that are usually not plowed right away and didn't want to risk it.

 

Can't stand them, I wish they came with a better stock tire. They are all right for driving in a straight line on the highway but not much good in snow or mud or if you make left or right hand turns haha.

I had the AT20s from the factory and wouldn't buy them again. I bought my truck in the winter and they did great for that first winter, so-so the second winter and by the following summer I would spin out in the rain trying to take off from a stop light. I got 30,000 miles out of them so I wouldn't say they were a junk tire, but I think there are much better options out there. They also seemed to wander at highway speeds the entire time I had them which I wasn't impressed with.

 

My factory At20s did good in the sand but I didn't like how they performed in the rain and snow at all. I ditched them at around 25K for some BFG All Terrains.

 

They work well enough for me, including in last years monster snows, that I will not be replacing them until they wear out. Probably replace them with something different then, though.

 

Their a fair highway tire. I can't believe they would be worth a
crap in any off-road situation, except maybe sand. Besides that, they
just don't look right on a Tacoma.

those tires are TERRIBLE. the worst tires ever.

 

They're a street tire. They work fine. What do you expect for a $130 tire?

I have them, they are ok. I would not replace them with the same tire, but they have been ok.

 

And a horrible one at that.

Absolute garbage. Worst tire I have ever dealt with in the snow or rain. Just go on tirerack.com and look at the reviews. Garbage of a tire. Only 15K on them when I tossed them. A light snow and lightly touching the breaks equaled ABS kickin in. Changed them to Goodyear Fortera Tripletreads and a light snow and hard on the brakes equals a nice smooth stop with no ABS kickin in.

 

All I will say to the OP is beware of reviews from folks here that threw away perfectly good tires and needed to come up with these opinions to justify their decisions. If you really need a serious off road tire, OK, go get one. But most of these guys just want new tires for appearances sake and won't admit it, so they need an excuse to justify throwing away almost new OEM shoes. I got no problem with that, it's their $. But I do have a problem with the nonsense rationalizations that label perfectly adequate tires (not the best, but OK) as "garbage" or "dangerous". Bottom line it it's your $ and you seat-of-the-pants.

 

I can not wait till they are worn out, I hate them. They are useless in the wet and off road. They are very light and decent highway tire until it rains. I may be biased because I have to drive my truck up unimproved trails with the max payload to get to sites at the top of mountians for work and really need a tire that is at the very least a all terrain designation. I would not put these tires on my wifes Highlander to get groceries.

I've put about 5,000 on my Dunlops so far. Don't see any problem with them. Good gas milage. A lot of people on this board only want serious off road tires and don't like them, but if most of your driving is on the pavement they are just fine.

 

Wait for them to wear in, they lose their performance fairly quickly. New they're not a bad tire at all. I have no reason to own an off-road tire and didn't mind them at all when I first got my truck. Then they wear out fairly quickly. I pushed mine to 30,000 miles and got rid of them before the winter came this year.

 

Has anyone else noticed that the OEM AT20's are traction rated B? And that aftermarket AT20's are traction rated A? Same tires, Dunlop AT20 Grand Trek. I am thinking, just because the OEM tires are lame (B traction tires on a 4x4?!), maybe the aftermarket ones would be all right. I think it is strange that the same brand/model tires would have different specs, OEM vs. aftermarket, but there you go. I can't personally compare them, I just noticed that the traction ratings were different when doing some tire research.
