Good visual on the uplift with 3rd gen Ryzen. My system with the 3950X in it:

    3950X.jpg

My system with the 5800X in it.

    5800X with 3200.jpg

Go from 39% GPU bound to 93% GPU bound. Anything above 90% in this benchmark is usually close enough to being exclusively GPU bound. Looks like a great match for future ray tracing games.

The Corsair ICue Nexus Companion might be the cure for the shitty ICue software.

That is if there is a version 2. The idea is great but there are mixed reviews of it so far.

It is also not available to buy right now. No one has them in stock.

3090s are starting to free up. In the local computer chat I'm noticing quite a few people starting to post that they've found cards available on Newegg, Bestbuy, etc for minutes at a time instead of seconds. They're a niche product at their price point, they'll stabilize first from what I'm seeing. It also helps that most of the high spender scalpers are still stuck with their 3090s. It turns out most people with $1600 ready for a 3090 are smart enough not to pay $2500 for one lol.

so finding a 5900x or 5950x seems to be impossible to find, would it be better to look at a 10900K or maybe at a 3950x. I dont really care if i go intel or AMD i would just like to actually build this and enjoy it. also hoping i can get my hands on a 3080 sometime in the near future. I really hate how this has all gone over the last month or two.

Guess it just depends who one talks with. Everyone I know has had an easier time getting a 3080 than a 3090. But thats a YMMV thing. Stock has definitely gotten more frequent though. Im sure some of it is production catching up a bit and demand being down a bit as people at this point are waiting to see AMD

Best Buy still sells out in seconds. Just doesnt seem like it since they do the "queue" and batch system. Might show as available for a few minutes but you cant actually check out. No clue on newegg as I dont do business with them these days

Thankfully they arent selling for 2500 anymore. But still a ton of them selling for 2k-2.2k. 3080's are where people are still buying at stupid prices. FE's going for 1400-1600

It is interesting how many people buy a 3090 and immediately try to trade for a 3080 + cash

Frankly I'm still a bit shocked how many people are ordering 3080s with the 6800XT only days away. I'm pretty sure supply will suck on the 6800XT like it did on the 3080, but a lot of benchmarks are pointing towards a 6800XT (especially paired with a Ryzen 5000) being able to smack around a 3080 when DLSS isn't used, and DLSS still isn't a game changing feature. I can see the appeal of the 3090, for CUDA workloads and anything that needs fast VRAM it's going to stay king, but the piddly 10 GB of VRAM on the 3080 and much lower CUDA count really limits it's usefulness in productivity.

I forget what your use case is. (gaming vs production). Personally....I'd hold off on intel at this point. Rocket Lake comes out in Q1 2021 so if anything Id see how that does. (id still go AMD though personally).

To hold you over i'd either grab 3900 (or a 3600 if gaming) or go for a 5600x. The 5600x seems to be coming in and out of stock a lot more often than the others. A 3900 is available now (duh lol).

O supply will suck. AIB's already confirmed that lol. The 3070 is the one that surprises me the most right now. Least a 3080 hits that sort of market for people who game but also do some workload stuff. (vs AMD)

Its how they have started to do it. Release in batches over an hour or two. Once you get the first notification just keep the page up and refresh it. Seems like they do every 15-20 minutes

Yeah, what's your use case? If you're not doing any heavy productivity work the 5600X is probably the processor you'll want anyways. Again, AMD doesn't really hamper the lower end skus on their processors.

Yeah, I've seen that Asus forum post as well. What I've heard beyond that is that supply will be nVidia like on launch day but with a large supply of cards coming in early December. AIB designs will also be unavailable until December, launch will be reference designs (basically AIB made FE cards) only. That being said actual GPU die production and yield is supposedly excellent so the shortage should be short lived, apparently the problem is with other components and COVID.

If you're doing anything GPU accelerated the 3080 is so-so in my opinion. nVidia really needs to come out with a higher VRAM version. If you follow rumors like I do supposedly GDDR6X yields are absolute trash and it's only cheap because the node Micron uses to build it is cheap. That's the reason Micron hasn't been able to convince anyone like Samsung or Hynix to buy a production license or take the standard to JEDEC for licensing. It feels like nVidia pushed for faster memory but came out with a standard that's cheaper than HBM but way too hard to get sizeable yields from which is hurting supply and causing nVidia to abandon the idea of a 3080 with more memory until the yield situation, hopefully, improves with time.

I really hope the "Infinity Cache" idea from AMD pans out. It would be a great way to keep cheaper memory solutions viable for gaming while achieving great performance.

Funny story, there is something strange going on with the 5950X and Adobe suite. No solutions yet either, but the 5950X is actually slower than the 5900X in a bunch of Adobe tests. The thought is that Adobe, as usual, optimized their software for 10 core Intel processors. Anything in a dead zone from 16-20 cores doesn't seem to work well. Above 24 cores the gains come back, probably because brute force wins at some point. Until Adobe fixes the issue the 5950X will be slightly slower than the 5900X in most Adobe apps.

I'd look at the 5900X, or even the 5800X if AMD drops the price by $80 on Black Friday like some rumors are suggesting.

For gaming in VR the 5600X would be very good.

Oh man, you're gonna be waiting. I put mine on 9/17 (the day they opened it) and still haven't gotten my step 2 yet. You're likely not getting one until mid-March at the earliest.

I have an Asus TUF OC 3090 installed right now.

I signed up on launch day for EVGA notifications on all their 3090s. I received a notification a week ago. Cancelled them all, I'm not a scalper, but that's how long it took just to get through the twenty minutes or so of first day orders on the 3090.
