Fluid gets all over driver's window when using windshield wiper fluid

Probably a newbie question, but I've almost always refrained from cleaning my windshield while driving with the built-in wiper fluid because the wipers always push fluid onto the driver's side window that dries and leaves streaks/spots. I thought this problem might be solved with a product like the WeatherTech rainguard/window deflectors. This question came up because I just replaced the wipers on the truck for the first time since buying it 5 years ago, and realizing I only ever use them for driving in the rain.

Is there a fix to the wipers pushing the fluid onto the driver's window?

 

nope have had one since 1987 and it has always tracked over to side glass.

 

Could be that the little nozzle on the driver's side is, and always has been, deformed. If it were me I would try swapping nozzles with the one one the passenger side, or maybe just buy a new nozzle.

 

have you ever had a new windshield put in? maybe the little trim piece edge/lip that should catch 'most of it' (unless very windy highway speeds) is not up to snuff

 

Upgrade to the Honda Odyssey nozzle, that should limit the pooling as it's a fan spray.

Yep...one of the first things I did when I got the truck. Works better than the 4 little squirt gun streams.

 

Regardless of the nozzle, the wiper blade will take the water toward the left edge of windshield, and then airflow pushes it off onto the side window. Mine has always done this. I seriously doubt there is much of anything you could do. I do recommend Rain-X washer fluid, which seems to dry a bit cleaner, and it will actually allow beading. Many times, I find it unnecessary to run my wipers when driving at highway speeds.

 

The spray nozzle upgrade is a must. The fan pattern is vastly superior.

But I think the OP is not talking about the fluid from the nozzle hitting the side windows. He’s talking about the wipers sweeping fluid off the windshield and on to the side window.

OP - I never really noticed if mine has done this (in the 21 years of owning the Tacoma ) but I have vent shades on my windows. I will notice some drips off of that but nothing too noticeable.

i posed a ?? earlier about the side trim or catch lip whatever around the windshield, this could be a problem

Yeah... only TW will you get an extensive write up, replete with pictures, on how to swap out sprayer nozzles... a 2 minute job

 

You can aim the nozzles. just get a thumb tack and stick it in the the little metal outlet and move it a little bit.

My brother used to do this on the old Vannagon he had. He'd aim the rear washer backwards so he could spray tailgaters.

 

Fortunately on my 98 that is almost nearly all disintegrated. And on my 04 nonexistent.

 

Best way would be to do as you have just don`t use the washers if it bothers you that much.

Go to a much smaller wiper blade so it does not come as close to the pillar might help

I don`t get into Manhattan anymore so the fine people that clean windshields at stop lights can no longer wash my windows.

 

This is the issue, not the nozzles spraying directly onto the window but the wiper pushing all the fluid

 

get some window flares if it's that much a bother.

 

Mostly just with rain and mist, not as good with road spray.

 

I gotcha, I misunderstood before.

Every vehicle I've ever owned does this to some degree. Just not something I've worried about. I've never noticed any steaks that interfere with my vision. If you're worried about the looks, just do like my dad did with his '57 T-Bird, and just carry around some chamois cloths with you and give it a quick wipe when you get to the car club event.

Maybe try a different brand of washer fluid that's less prone to leaving streaks?

I hate the look of those flair things, makes it look like you spend too much time thumbing through the JC Whitney catalog, lol.

 

When I grew up there in the 70s/80s those spray bottles were always filled with their urine.
