    No welding! Definitely MIG! It will weaken the structure. TIG is allowable, but if you kig you are inviting that support for even further future failure and weakening of it.

    That's crazy man. I have one coming right out of the corner of my fuel tank door. :mad:

    Due to being ~18 gauge, I clamped a washer underneath to act as a heatsink. 40 amps on the TIG and it welded nicely, after the coating was ground off.

    A heat sink backing is the moral here. For those without a MIG.

    The more time I spend on Tacomaworld the more I regret buying a Tacoma. Every day a new thread surfaces, related to the poor build quality of these trucks - rust, mouse-attracting wiring, rust, sheet metal cracks, rust, paint flaking, rust, box bedsides flexing out, etc, etc. Buy a Tacoma they say, it's the most reliable truck they say :facepalm:

    I think I'll stay off this forum a while for my own sanity haha.

    They are the most reliable until you start modifying them and pushing them past their limits. Trucks weren't meant to handle the kind of abuse.

    But what other truck do you even consider buy after 200k? I’ve bought three over and all ran better than most new cars 4.0, 3.4 v6 &22r/re are unstoppable.. truly are the most reliable/ low maintenance as far as keeping them running and driving. But yea frames are shit, composite bed is stupid, and mine had cracks before she ever went off-road so it hadn’t been pushed. Everybody has their flaws Ford for existing, chevys motors will not last 150k without a rebuild, dodge has tranny issues and our shit just disappears right before our eyes

    I was just looking at my buddy’s 3rd gen 4 runner and he tied it all together with 1/2” round. Easy to bend and weld. Tied hood hinges all the way to the lower core supports. I’ll get pictures if he has the hood off today.

    Exactly what I did. Drilled out the spot welds and used 1/4” bolts to put it back together. Before I did I plated all the important stuff. Boxed the lower section and tied it all together with the radiato mounts.
