Good evening, I’m new to TW, driving a 2009 dcsb trd sport. I want to put some 285’s on but I want to do a cmc first. I got a quote from a local off road shop at $600 which I felt was a little steep. I wanted to see if any members on TW have done this and would be willing to help me out. I’m out of Greenville,sc willing to drive a couple hours to get it done. Thank you in advance for any help.

First off. Welcome to TW! Secondly, $600 for a cmc is unbelievable. I live in SoCal where the hourly rate of most shops are usually more than most places around the US. I charge $225 for a CMC which is on the lower end of the spectrum. I’d say somewhere in the $300 range is more on par with what you should be paying. $400 tops. But even that’s expensive in my opinion. It’s a 3 hour job at the max for one person so that means the shop you got quoted from wants $200/hour. Jeez that’s ridiculous. Anyways, I hope this helps you out a little with what you should be spending on one.

You might even get someone on here that lives in your area that’s good with a welder and can do it for you for cheaper.

Why do the chop first? What if you don’t need it? You could buy a harbor freight welder and some cmc plates and do your own for less than what they’re charging lol

I guess my biggest concern is getting the tires on and they rub so bad I can’t drive it. I actually do have a welder mig and stick and have the skills to weld the face plates and I have the tools to cut the cab mount. I would just like to have someone there that has done it before to know where to cut. I was hoping that someone in my area would be able to help.

Or just pick a tire that fits without modding and lift lol. There's some good off road spots not far from you but you will have some decent travel, having huge tires without a lift probably isn't a great idea unless you're only using it on the road.
    anyway, welcome to tw!

I just trimmed it but never welded a plate over the hole. :anonymous:
Been driving it this way for 4 years, even though I spent the time to fabricate plate extensions out of 3/16 steel.
Bottom line, have your plates on hand first before you start cutting so you don't cut too much.

Do you have aftermarket UCA? If you get enough caster, you might get away without hitting anything.

I do have aftermarket UCA and just over 2in lift in the front. Im thinking about running 255, Ive been reading on here that a lot of people dont have issues with the more narrow tires.

Yep! Over a year here without getting plates welded on. I will get around to it eventually.
