Good lights help a lot. I don't have great night vision either, but with handlebar/helmet quality high-output lights it's great. Makes the trails feel brand new again.
I really enjoy it, but it is cold and out here the kitties are a real danger when riding at night alone. Think of how cats react to the laser pointers, but you're the light...

    haha I can only imagine!

my issue is actually the light. let me explain..maybe..

I have bad astigmatisms in both eyes. I wear glasses everyday, not necessarily to see, but to focus. I'm not blind and barely have a "prescription", it's 99% to fix my astigmatisms. That being said, contacts don't do as well for my focus as my glasses do, which is ok when biking because there isn't a ton of focusing so I wear my contacts when I ride. The issue with that, the contacts don't do enough to the light for me. I have to wear my glasses to drive at night, not my contacts.

I don't really want to wear my glasses biking because I'm afraid I'll break them. So night riding, even with lights, with contacts, is kinda out..

I guess a question is, what do folks recommend for wearing actual eye glasses to bike?

sunglasses wouldn't help with the night riding. my contacts suffice for daytime riding.

I have astigmatism and wear glasses full time. I've crashed more than I'd like to, have broken helmets, concussed myself and have never broken or lost my glasses for what it's worth.

Eye pro companies like ESS make prescription inserts for their glasses that clip on to the nose piece. You could rock a dark / clear lens combo with the clip ins and have the best of both worlds.

The ESS Ice series pictured are a bit smaller and not nearly as distinct as my X-tigers

I might even talk to my eye doctor who is one of my good friends and see what options she has, or recommends. I'm just a super weird case...sunlight doesn't affect me like at all so I hardly wear sunglasses, and they actually hurt my vision on the trails...but then manufactured lights bother the ever living hell out of me.

Regular glasses with a hard plastic ear piece. Not sport glasses, not cool Oakleys, just regular eyeglasses
