put together a test map for 04A61 that I'm hoping someone may be willing to help me out with by flashing (if you feel comfortable doing so) and providing feedback

following @Mooseditty17 suggestions the last time i brought up the idea of an ECT eco-mode, i made edits there to turn ECT mode into a fuel economy mode for people who may feel so inclined. Not sure how it'd do around town, higher gears is obviously where it should shine

this map has the usual 100% throttle and airload changes that have become pretty standard it seems, at least for us MT guys, and then i also went ahead and made the acceleration request to airload table linear. This is something that myself and others on the MT side have had great results with and this is what i really care about for this test, wanting to know how it's received. the top axis for the table on the AT is not like the MT, although the values are close, so i'm wanting to see how this does before digging in further if required

appreciate any help, time, and feedback anyone who tests this map is willing to give me. thanks in advance

it is pretty much 2.0 stock. This afternoon I made an attempt to move numbers up and it did not work (3rd table). I just cant grip on the direction at high speeds. And you are correct, it wont unlock no matter how much pedal you give. Thanks

Lots of people hate on 'Atkinson', I still don't think it has anything to do with the any of the complaints people have. The ~500 hp Lexus RC F, LC 500, etc. have the same 'Atkinson' system as the Tacoma. The Tacoma can change from 'Atkinson' to 'Otto' crazy fast... it can move ~45 degrees in ~50 milliseconds.

There are places on the map where it decreases as load and/or rpm rise. If it is retarding when it logically shouldn't, I would think that is a symptom of a different problem. For example, the throttle open/close/open stutter we talked about... if the throttle is bouncing, the load is bouncing; so, you would expect the VVT to bounce.

This table didn't make sense to me at first. It goes from 0 to 69.6; while the VVT system is supposed to have an 80 degree range. If it helps... from logs... now I see that 27.839 is really 30 degrees, and 69.599 is 75 degrees... the scale is off, like every map. I feel like I have a better understanding of this map now and see no reason to fear your test... besides lower MPGs. I'd say go for an 'even' 27.839 minimum and see what it does. OV seems to like '42.919' (46.25*).

You've inspired me to lower some of the low numbers he raised; and, lower the idle numbers to see if I can get a more efficient, still stable, idle. Ages ago, OV, said he expanded atkinson... looks like it is minimally reduced at high rpm / low load (if those numbers can even be classified as 'atkinson').

Let us know how it goes; but, beware of the placebo.:spy:

Forgive me if this is a question that has been asked and answered 1,000 X but I don't have time to read all of the posts (I did Try). I'm curious about getting this flash tune, but I want it to be as simple as the cloud based tune I have for my M4 (Bootmod3). I simply plug my laptop into to the OBD port, choose one of the off the shelf maps that I want, load it, and in seconds I have 75+ RWHP and recalibration of just about anything I want. Of course I'm not expecting 75 RWHP from a NA engine but are there OTS Maps with this tune available that are geared to universally please most Tacoma customers, i.e. slightly more power, better auto shift points, etc? Or is this something for another company?

Hello , 2020 TRD SPORT 4x4 AT owner here. I am running VFTune Premium-stock-tune and it is much better than the stock ECU. It took weeks to know how the truck was going to drive and I am wanting to explore the stock-THX tune. Money is what it is, and with gas prices climbing, I need to get back to 87 octane fuel. I am looking for the best performance tune on 87. I know I can run the Premium tune w 87, but I suspect that is not ideal compared to running a defined 87 tune. My question to all who have explored the tunes- how does the Stock-THX tune compare with the tune I am running? Thanks in advance.

Yes. Via tune pack. Obtainable from Mat/OVTune or from other people who already possess them such as myself and many others.

I can't remember but I think I'd seen something about speed limiter correction for people who have regeared? Such as people with 5.29's no longer being limited to 86-89 mph, whatever it was. Was that addressed with the 2.0 maps that Mat released that already are labeled 4.88 or 5.29? Or is that a later update that we then would need to go into vF with to edit and set up ourselves? And if so, what to do.

Not sure which table applies to which map there but it looks like you're letting it lock above the maximum unlock speed and when that happens it'll never unlock unless you go back under that maximum unlock speed. So you should raise the TC unlock speeds. If you want them to unlock up to 80 then set the values to 90. You dont have to adjust the lock tables since the unlock tables override them. Give it a shot and let me know if it doesnt work but from all the testing I've done thats what would work for me.

Make sure you modify maps 1-4, maps 5-6 are used under separate conditions, likely while the engine is still cold.

How does one even update VF Tuner? I can't see it in any of the drop downs.

Been driving a 2020 base model 4 banger the last 2 days waiting on mine to get the fuel pump replaced. Makes me really appreciate everything @OVTune and all you guys have been doing!

I have no idea what the update was, or if there even was one. They also said that 2020 MT tune would be available last weekend and that 2021 MT tunes would be available ~5 days after that. I haven't heard anything about either.

2020 MT 04B90 files are already done and available.
    we thought 04B91 was 2021 but it's actually 2020.

2021 MT support is 04C30, it's coming this week.

other updates are still being worked on.

I flashed mine a few weeks ago. It’s pretty damn good. Trans logic much improved. Seems like an excellent foundation for tuning further. Waiting for Mat’s magic but may dive in myself very soon. Purchased credits to unlock 04B33. Just waiting for them to appear in vf.

    04C00 and 04C20 are both 2021 ATs?
