Well, I missed a bunch in the past few days! Interested to see how the MAX shakes out. I must admit I really like my pro yellow fogs and 4000K driving lights- not sure if I am interested enough in the 5700K color (although it would match my SS30 bar).

@Diode Dynamics Will they also be offered in the SAE driving pattern? Or are they too intense for compliance?

520 VS 300 is some insane jump!
180, 300, 520.. insane leap, they should be using laser emitters!

If I'm interpreting this correctly, these emitters pull roughly the same wattage as the Pro lights, but are smaller (and therefore more focused) like the Sport lights.

So their performance should see good increases in focused applications like the fog and spot patterns- but less gains in the flood pattern (where light is intentionally scattered). Is this correct?

They will be too bright for compliance with the existing driving optic.

LOL, I'll get some pics of that new optic up. :)

What if I told you they are brighter than Baja's lasers...

The emitters on the Max pull more wattage, but I believe output is limited by the cooling ability of the pod housing, so once stable the total power draw is similar though slightly higher on the Max.

Brighter then Baja Lasers. Does it throw further in a spot optic? That would be an awesome selling point. Let us know!

You are correct. They do run at slightly higher power, and there are less internal losses as a result of the improved focus. More light does reach the target, but there is only a slight increase for the Flood pattern. These really shine in applications where the improved focus is desirable, such as fog, spot, and driving.
The SS3 Max is a quarter of the price of the only laser-diode pod I'm aware of. And as crashnburn said, these super high-end LEDs are still far brighter than current white-laser technology. We know it's out of most people's price range, and we do not expect high demand. But once we put a prototype together with these LEDs, we knew we had to get them on the market for the guys looking for the absolute best.

Much further. But that's not saying much. The SS3 Sport spot beats the laser...

The real question is...will there be a SS3 C2 max? haha

Thanks i definitely trust you guys.
being that i have 7 pairs of ss3 pro, and 4 pairs of ss2c pros. 2 pairs of the ss6 and and a pair of ss12s. Great stuff. great price. Will definitely check out the ss3 max at some point.

The laser pods always seemed like an unusual product to me. A high power laser energizes a phosphorus chip to create light, where it's splashed out of a forward facing reflector that sort of wastes any realized efficiency. It's not like shining a laser directly forward (this would be pretty useless as a light anyway). And the chip life is a fraction of LEDs.

@Diode Dynamics can you confirm if Max will meet SAE standards for fog and/or driving patterns?

@Diode Dynamics can confirm, but the Max will meet the SAE Fog F spec requirements, it will not meet SAE J581 Driving requirements as the output is too high.

I've been very impressed by the performance of the Diode Dynamic lights thus far. More testing on the light bar planned soon.

    20201101_122547.jpg

    Left to Right:
    - Amazon Special (Lowest output, more of a flood pattern)
    - Baja Design Flood Optic (Lowest profile light, best for lighting up camp)
    - Diode Dynamics SSc2 Flood Optic (Slightly larger than BD, Higher output than BD, Amber backlight works perfect for retaining night vision in camp.)
    - Diode Dynamics Combo Optic (Very impressed by the light output, could see as ditch light)
    - Baja Design Squadron Pro Fog Optic (Solid light, smooth optic)
    - Diode Dynamic Yellow Driving Optic (Very impressed by the light output and optics)
    - Fog Optic (more controlled beam pattern)
    - Flood Optic (would light up a few camps)
    - Baja Design XL80 Combo Optic (Highest output)

I'm looking forward incorporating Diode Dynamics lights into our builds!

I swear pre-order was available on the DD Tacoma fog page earlier today, but looks like they have been removed.

Nothing on hand of course, but I’ll have a stocking order in the moment they drop (soon). If you want to make sure yours is on the truck PM me. I don’t wanna clutter up this with sales stuff if I can help it.

My dental hygienist, who herself owns an MT Tacoma and MT Corolla, mom of 3, mocked me when I spoke highly of the Honda on Tuesday.

Pretty sure the crew here will be less forgiving on that subject :)
