I was foot braking the truck in the driveway this past summer testing theories to defeat the nanny controls when boom got the Christmas tree...the fix was the drive.

Been messing near the ABS wheel sensors? Or anything that may have blown a fuse?

I have to second @BigWhiteTRD. All those traction and vsc lights can be a hundred things. With the diff lock light flashing that list whittles down to a likely few.

Techstream is worth its weight in gold here. There are diff states such as lock requested but unlocked and unlock requested but locked that will flash the diff lock, disable certain driver aids, but be a totally legit state and throw no codes. With techstream you can see what the 4wd ecu sees and identify the erroneous signal.

What fits the best here is a diff lock problem. Most likely an issue with the indicator sensor. Make sure the diff isn't locked then trouble shoot the indicator switch and harnessing from the 4wd ecu.

Yeah that's why I asked. My wires got yanked out at the plug in front of the spare. Had the same lights. All or most of those lights have one thing or another to do with the wheel speed sensor.

Lol this thread is funny... You need a scanner that's capable of reading all modules and do a complete scan for codes.

Or, do you what is already mentioned. A quality obd plug and download a version of techstream.

Or, like I always try to mention, take it to your favorite local mechanic. See if they can pull codes for you.

Is the outside temperature being reported correctly on the cluster or is it FF or something like that ?
Stupid question it seems but it tells me communications are normal.

The day before it happened I did my annual fluid film application. I could go under the truck tomorrow and check all cable connections. I'm usually pretty careful put my have bumped something the wrong way.

It's in the post he quoted. Gas cap. Probably not related though

Embarrassingly enough it was the gas cap. Gasket/o-ring. Weird, and not likely your issue, but water and creeping penetrants can wreak havoc.

Check at the wheel sensors and the plug that's in front of the spare tire. If you have extra droop in the rear suspension and jacked the truck up to spray you have probably found your culprit.

thanks. I didn't jack it to spray, but I'll for sure check that and other plugs tomorrow.

update: Issue persists. I've probably driven 100 miles since this started, but I'm not certain given I didn't start the trip odo. I inspected all electrical connections, especially QDs and even sprayed them with electrical parts cleaner.

After some more research, I found out there is a sensor that controls when the dash light for the diff lock goes one. It is NOT the actuator, very separate in fact. This sensor could have gone bad. Is that something that a more detailed code scanner would tell me?

This is exactly what we said, look into the indicator sensor. The indicator doesn't turn on the light, it just communicates to the 4wd ECU that the diff is in the lock or unlocked state. The 4wd ECU then communicates to the combination meter what do with the light.

That part number does not look like the correct one. Pretty sure the one in the 8.75 diff is unique to the application and that part number looks like the ball nose style switch used on transfer case shift rails and other places.

Thanks, sorry I didn't grasp or understand what you all meant the first time. Fixed the part #, I copied/ pasted the wrong one.

New part number looks right. Scour around for some threads on the thing. To install it properly the 3rd member should be removed. Having said that, there has been some ingenuity used to install it without removing the 3rd member.

I'd suggest trouble shooting what you have before going through the replacement effort and expense.

really appreciate the guidance. I'll go through your ECU testing mentioned earlier in the thread this as soon as I have some time.

I had my warning lights do something similar on my '06 4runner because of the gas cap wasn't sealing.

On the 4R (or at least the 4th gens) the VSC and VSC TRAC lights came on any time the check engine light came on. Really annoying that you could have a bad O2 sensor or a loose gas cap and no longer have VSC or TRAC. I think this is common across all Yota's - maybe all traction control equipped vehicles, I don't know, but I hate it. Just let me turn stuff on and off as I see fit. :playball:
