long shot, but on page 9 you said you had an extra ADD switch and wire set up you’d be willing to sell, you wouldn’t still have that would you?

someone explained the wiring in reference to the tcase to the plug behind the glove box to me well. And I understand that now. But this ADD switch and wires has me really confused, and I don’t understand any of it. It’s the last part of this mod that I need to be able to understand and I’m just not getting it.

No worries. Figured I’d take a shot it the dark. I guess I’ll still have to research some more in these threads

I've been searching through threads for hours and there was a question asked in a previous FJ swap thread that was never answered.

It was asked, if after putting the FJ case in the Tacoma, if you could retain your factory 4WD dial and use that to to activate the ADD.

So for example: manually shift the (FJ) T case into 4WD, turn factory dial to corresponding hi/low setting, and drive. Is that a thing? Would that work?

I understand it's not really desired as part of the point for the swap to begin with, but would it work after wiring the FJ T case to the 4WD ECU plug for the dash lights?

....then again I guess you're supposed to leave the 4WD ECU plugs disconnected... my knowledge of electronics and wiring are extremely limited.

Does this make sense what i'm asking?

Probably not because you'd have to have the ecu plugged into the TC most likely for it to even consider activating the ADD. I bet if you tried it the light would just flash and flash and not slide collar over because it doesn't sense a transfer case.

Doesn't quite work that way, unless you use the output of the OEM switch to drive a DPDT relay maybe. The switch goes to the 4x4 ECM from the factory so you'd have to cut and reconnect to a new circuit.

I see...lol that all sounds Greek to me.

How do you know what order to swap the sensors from the taco case to the FJ case? I do not know what each sensors name is or what its referred to as.

All you have to do is:

These are in the gauge cluster

    • Make a connection between the 4WD sensor and 4WD light (C10 Pin 15).
    • Make a connection between the 4Lo sensor and 4Lo light (C10 Pin 16).
    • Ground the second sensor wire.

If you look at the diagram you will see the sensors that come off fj case. 4lo and 4wd. You need to take some (i think i used 18 gauge) wire and run it from the sensor plugs coming off fj tcase to the gauge cluster inside the cab.

Here are the 2 wires you need to connect to in gauge cluster [IMG]

I was under the impression from reading the forums that you take the sensors from the tacoma case and relocate them into the FJ case, and just replug them in, then reconfigure the existing wiring in the cab?

if your truck was 4wd from the factory that is true. The sensor on the driver side of the case is the 4LO sensor and the sensor on the passenger side is the 4x4 indicator.

No offense but if you don't understand anything we are saying you are better off taking it to someone who does. Or just ride without the lights hooked up, if you can't tell what 4wd or 4lo feels like compared to 2wd, the lights on the dash won't help ya LOL.

When doing a prerunner conversion the wires were never there from the glovebox to the cluster so you have to run them like you did.

Very true. Fortunately, good knowledge passed on between good people makes for successful mods. :D
