Still haven’t heard anything from my dealer about allocation even though I placed a deposit on an order for one back in early september. Is it normal for dealers to not get a MT allocation until late in the year/early next. I still don’t fully understand the process. I still haven’t seen any in my region either other than one that just popped up at another dealer with markup. Wondering if anyone has any insight.

They build the MT in cycles. If you missed the cycles could be waiting 4-6 months until they come back around and build a batch. That's what I have read here at Tacoma World.

This is my understanding as well. I was also told that small dealers may only get a single Pro allocation for the entire year. Toyota also goes and picks orders they will build.

In my case I got lucky. My favorite local dealer is the biggest in the state. There were several AT orders placed before my MT. But in early September, Toyota cherry picked mine. It arrived a week ago.

I was told, when I placed my order on August, that I was likely looking at April before it would be built. I wasn't in a hurry and really wanted exactly what I wanted. So while I wasn't stoked about waiting for so long I was mostly okay with it.

I don’t see how that works, but maybe. I assume it is different for every region since literally no manual Tacoma lunar rocks came to VA until later this month. I don’t have a problem waiting either, but I’m seeing lots of MT pop up on the west coast, especially CA and FL. My dealer has already had 3 AT they tried to get me in, so hoping the manuals are coming later here for some reason.

According to my dealer, the ordering system isn't really an ordering system in a traditional sense. The dealer submits what it wants and toyota chooses to fill those allocations at their discretion. Allocations are determined at the beginning and middle of the month, every two weeks or so. The Pro's are still built in Austin, so they get intermixed in with Tundras. I would assume they build Tacomas based on how many engines/transmissions they have on hand and from what I read the MT's are made in asia, and then shipped to the US.

But, I will say, wait for the MT. It's a totally different truck compared to the AT. That additional wheel torque makes a noticiable difference. It's for sure quicker than the AT, but It's also noticable stronger than my Gen II 4.0. The MT allows you to put the motor in the power when you want, or run low RPMs for milage when you want, and when you want to give it some go, the 3.5 is more than happy to oblige. It's a very revvy, stout little motor when paired with the correct transmission.

It's not a trophy truck, but with the MT, I'm mergeing with freeway traffic and rallying up mountain passes faster and with less strain than I ever did with my 4.0. It's well worth the wait.

I def plan on waiting for the MT. Happy to hear it performs well. Looking forward to the day I can pick it up and give it a spin. Wish the ordering system was more traditional and didn’t have to deal with this allocation process and uncertainty

Why do you care what people paid in taxes? That's a state by state assessment.

...and dependant on trade in value as that affects taxes too. Even price is pretty subjective based on factory options.

Just lets all agree that none of us will ever pay over MSRP under any circumstances.

Tax, tag, registration and dealer fees infers OTD. Its what you pay to be able to drive the vehicle off the dealer lot. People need to quote what they paid for the truck itself - that's the only way to not skew the values people are throwing out. I'm also not the one using the term 'yall', so calling me a dummy is the old 'people in glass houses'...

This thread becomes counterproductive to say "I paid $42,500 OTD". Please post what you negotiated for the TRUCK ONLY.

The manual is slightly quicker off the line. But after you get rolling it's no quicker than the automatic.
One could even argue at highway speeds the auto is faster, being it gained the 3/10th of a second back the manual got off the line.
