If you’re so enamored with all of the latest electrical geegaws American manufacturers cram into their vehicles then forget Toyota and go FCA or Ford. Or even GM(God forbid).
Better hope whatever you get had a magical quality control wand waved over it.

    That’s not my point.
    Let’s talk quality.

    Difference is quality control.

The steering boxes in the new Jeeps are made in China, a lot of people are having issues with those. People are lining up at dealers to get theirs replaced.

You should go on the JL and JT forums to see all the issues. Some people get lucky and have one with no issues, for others its a nightmare of problems.

Limited, TRD Pro, TRD Off Road Premium, and SR5 Premium have push button start, as of 2020, if I’m remembering correctly. Limited has had it for awhile. Odd that it wasn’t included on the Pro until recently though. Crazier than that is the fact that a $45k Off Road Premium doesn’t have auto on/off headlights.

It’s weird, but I actually like that the 4Runner doesn’t have the powered lift gate. All of them that I’ve used are annoyingly slow. Maybe I’m just too impatient lol.

It was the reason why I bought a Kia over a Chrysler. Quality on the Chrysler seemed to be a total crapshoot.

Wanting it is justification enough if you can afford it.

Toyota is in the perfect position where name and resale guarantees their business. They can afford to be unreliable. (In most cases)

Yup, premium trim sr5's and OR's along with Limited and Pro trims have smart access and push button start.

I love my 4runner but certain omissions just leaving you scratching your head. Some of them aren't even that expensive or complex to implement and are available all day in vehicles costing half less.

On the other hand, the 4runner has some premium (in my mind) features like all windows being 1 touch auto up/down, heated windshield/wiper de-icer, and that rear window that rolls all the way down. Not too many vehicles offer those.

All in, I like it. Old school but it has its charm even though I think it's overpriced by about $6-8k. I would like to consider the Bronco or the 6th gen 4runner in about 3yrs when i'm looking to upgrade. Should have my 2020 paid off by next summer.

There is no doubt Toyota gets away with a lot of quality issues here and there and their trucks / SUVs are too expensive... but like a heroin addiction, I can’t stop. I’m fighting Toyota corporate now for a bad paint issues, but if they said full refund we just want our truck back, I’d say no .

Dude Toyota trucks are known for and always have been known for their utilitarian qualities. Simple and reliable. The Tacoma specifically has been the simple work horse and 4x4 champion of Toyotas fleet. I mean what $35k+ truck doesn't have power seats until 2019-20? A truck made to be simple and reliable. People even say the new Tundra is a dinosaur but it also remains one the most reliable trucks on the planet. I have a 2010 and its been absolutely flawless since new. Hence the amazing resale value of Toyota trucks. Even my investment advisor recommends Toyota.
Think of a Tacoma as a solid platform to build apon and make your own and if that's not your thing then maybe a Bronco or a Jeep is what you need. Besides the new 4x4 tech on these rigs is ridiculously expensive and I'm guessing isn't going to be the difference between getting you to your outback destination and not.

I’ve said this for a bit, and don’t get me wrong here, I really do love my Tacoma, but Toyota is riding on reputation now. Pick your poison. Short of a German sports car or dodge, I don’t really see the advantage or a Toyota over another brand. Get what you want and enjoy it. I personally think the Tacoma is the best looking of the midsize trucks, but it’s all opinion

Toyota has always trailed behind other brands when it comes to the goodies that put a temporary sparkle in one’s eyes, but in my experience with Toyota I’ve had by far fewer problems/repairs than any other brand I’ve owned over the past 40 plus years. My taco is Toyota number seven for me. Are they prefect? Of course not, anything mechanical will fail at some point.

There is something to be said about innovation.

The last company to build a horse drawn buggy, probably built a very reliable horse drawn buggy, and it probably got rear disk brakes after years of claiming they were not necessary.

Nevertheless they went out of business.
