Okay so a while back I posted about my smart keys not working with my Tacoma. Got help and we figured the issue was from my after market remote start. Once I got that removed things went back to normal. Then today the issue started again but this time even worse. Not only does my (both) smart key not work but Im having electrical issues. The dual climate control for heating/ac was flickering yesterday. When that happened the blind spot monitoring on my driver mirror was also randomly flickering. Lastly, while Im driving the system will tell me it is snowing outside and that it is -15 degrees F outside. I checked my battery connection and everything seems fine. As far as I am aware these issues seem to occur when I get a car wash but they are also new and have never occurred in the past. They also have occurred when I did not get a carwash so Im not sure whats going on. Any help is appreciated thx :)

Any ideas on what is going on? or what I can do?

Check your obd2 port located on the drivers side under the dash is rust present like in the photo? If so you got a leak and it’s getting into the modules above causing shit to go haywire.

Yeah, that sounds like water. Check under your carpet to see if the padding is wet. The padding can wick the water up to the connectors behind the kick panels and cause all sorts of strange things to happen.

Was the aftermarket remote start plug and play, or did it require splicing? If plug and play, get it all out if anything is left. If splicing was required, definitely go check and double check all those connections.

Yah so this is what mine looks like but I have no idea where the leak is, and where it came from. Any ideas? also is this fixable in terms of the electrical components?

I was really hoping you'd be wrong but unfortunately you are correct. Padding was wet and I have no idea why that is, nor where the leak is coming from

So just an update, I went to start the truck up earlier to run some errands. Things seemingly got worse and I had a Christmas tree of lights going off on my cluster. I was also noticing a weird buzzing sound coming from my speakers or something in the back end of the truck. Took it to my friends house who has an expensive OB scanner, and we removed most the codes. All Im left with in terms of codes is C1ABE and U1117. It seems like water is messing things up and Im having a ton of electrical issues. I have no idea where these issues are occurring specifically or if they can even be fixed... If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate the help, as I am very lost. Also I noticed in other posts people have said this occurs when the windshield has been replaced but mine was replaced 6 months ago, and I just started experiencing these issues

The sound is probably the tpms receiver in the top corner of the back on the driver's side. You can read about my water situation in the links below. Good luck.

    As far as fixing it...
    • Find the leak and fix it
    • Remove the carpet and padding and dry or replace it
    • Unplug the connectors behind the driver and passenger kick panels, dry them out, and check for and clean any corrosion. They make contact cleaner spray that may help.
I'm not sure if there may be any more permanent damage done that requires replacing parts. Mine would get better when it was dry and symptoms would return when it rained.

    Sorry, that sucks
You gotta park it in a dry garage with the windows down and find the leak. If it's out of warranty, pull the seats and carpet before you get mold.
