I have a 2018 access cab I’m planning on adding a bumper and winch that would add about 100-120lbs all they have left in stock are the front performance springs for 0-110 any one have experience with these with that kinda of weight will it be adequate or should i what for the constant load? Thanks

 

Sorry I can’t help with that since I don’t have an aftermarket bumper but you might be able to call them and see about getting an order with the sale price for when they are in stock.

 

Hello all, I ordered and installed the Foamcell Pro kit with performance load coils/leaf packs, and UCA's mid July and I feel inclined to share my experience. I had a few setbacks installing this kit so hopefully my experience can help someone out. I also did the ECGS bearing swap at the same time so I didn't have to do that later.

Front:
I ordered my coil-overs unassembled. I used the "no spring compressor" method by using a jack under the lower control arm and that worked great. This meant that I had to determine where I wanted the front spring set at so I used Ironman's recommendation (9 1/64" from through-bolt hole to spring seat). In hindsight, I see that their chart just said "Tacoma" without a generation specific measurement (I think this might have changed since I installed mine). Their measurement yielded me about 3.5" of lift in the front which was too much. It was just about level with the rear once I got everything done if not a touch nose high. I wanted to maintain a factory rake so I eventually took the front back apart and readjusted the coils on both sides down by about 5/8" which lowered the front about an inch. I should also note that I did account for driver lean when I setup the drivers side. I should also mention that my front end is completely stock (no aftermarket bumper, winch etc.).

Rear:
The rear was pretty straight forward. I could not believe how beefy the leaf pack was compared to OEM. Once we got everything put together and did some flex testing, we found that the front bolt on the drivers side leaf pack was too long and was scraping on the plastic gas tank. It was an easy fix as we just flipped the bolt around so the bolt head was closest to the gas tank and the nut was facing outward. I don't know if I messed up or if it was just too long of a bolt but it could have been a bad situation.

I had all the measurements pre and post but they are a little wonky so I'm not posting that. I would say I am at about 2.75" (ish) lift all around maintaining factory rake of 1".

This is after I lowered the front and installed 285 75 R16 BFG KO2's. When I got wheels I went with the 16-19 TRD Pros as in all my research they seamed to be the ideal measurements to clear this size tire with no rubbing. I have a lot of miles on these on and off road at this point and I have no rubbing.




This is with our camper fully loaded and about 3.5 hours deep in Moab. Minimal sag and ride was great.

Nice write up! I tried using the truck as the compressor and I was unable to lol. I tried for a long time to get it and was just not able to.

 

I found it to be really easy (had to do it twice lol). Did you loosen the inner lower control arm alignment bolts?

Well I think I found the tire size I need lol. Good write up! Take it they would rub with flaps and that’s why you removed them? Personally like the look of the mudflaps.

 

I never had mud flaps so I’m not sure how much bulk they add to the inner fender. Here's a pic by the cab mount at full lock for reference.

 

Truck looks great! I'm looking into getting the Foam cell stage 2 kit for 2nd gen tacoma. I am Curious if you had to do CMC to fit the 285's I know you said no rubbing but is that with CMC or no CMC? I'm looking to do 270/75/17 and was thinking I would be fine without CMC.

 

I was just reading through your other thread and was going to reply there haha. I did not have to do any plastic melting/trimming or a CMC. After everything I read on the Tacoma Pro wheels they seam to be just the right specs to fit 33's.

 

I’m running 275/70-17. Rubbing just a touch on my mud flaps but not CM. I also don’t have the caster set all the way forward either.

 

Haha nice. I think I'll be running method nv 305's 17" which I think are sitting pretty similar to the TRD pro wheels. I really do like the lift/tire/wheel ratio of your truck. I was thinking I would go 17's after having 16's before I think they look just a little small but I need to look at more pictures to be sure. How are you liking the suspension so far? and is there anything you would do differently if you did it again? I'm on the fence with the foam cell and nitro to save money but I'm leaning toward spending the extra on the foam cell just for the adjustability and re-buildability.

Good to know, got any pictures of the setup? I took my mud flaps off so I'm only worried about CMC. Still haven't decided if I want to run 16" or 17" wheels yet.

Got anymore pics either on a different thread or post? I wanted to run Wildpeaks as well and it looks pretty good just a little hard to see with the angle and shadows. Also are you running the Foam cells as well?

 

I don’t have any other pics that would better shot it. Have since took off my mud flap.....
