so this morning i went to my local dealership to have my first 5k maintenence and showed them the problem i was having with the steering wheel noise. after 2 1/2 hrs for the oil change and for them to fix the noise, the mechanic came out and said everything was fixed. i was happy and proceeded to drive off the lot. then what do u know, i hear the same freakin noise again. i flipped a u-turn and went straight back in. i didn't get an apology or any sympathy. i was told that i needed to leave my truck there and they would call me to let me know. the mechanic even had the nerve to ask me if i'm willing to wait until my next oil change which is another 5k or 6 months and bring it back and they will look into it again. wtf??? they couldn't even give me a time frame as to how long it will take. i then asked for a rental and the response was that i couldn't but they will have someone take me home. so now i'm without my truck and have to sit around waiting for them to call back which could take all day. i'm really disappointed with their service. if they can't fix this issue, i'm going to demand a new truck.

the issue i was having is different. it's weird actually. when i first bought the truck, the steering wheel was off center. they did and alignment and since then when i first start the truck and start moving, i hear a scratch noise in the steering wheel. it sounds like it could be the clock spring. it only happens the first time and after it is fine. but if i turn the truck off and start it up to drive again, i will hear that same scratch noise. it annoys the hell out of me.

im actually at 2k. bought the truck at the end of aug and was there for the 5k or 6 months. i guess 6 months came first since i don't drive it much. if not then im going to demand a trade in for 2011 for what i owe on my 2010 price.

Bummer. Dont think you will get anywhere demanding a new truck but you should ask to talk to somebody in charge and raise some hell. They should have at least given you a loaner. Is there another Toyota dealership nearby that you can take it to next time? Maybe better luck at another dealership. They said they have no idea when you will get it back? Dude take one of their tundras for a test drive and call them after about five minutes and tell them you have no idea when they will be getting their truck back. See how they like it!

when i had to have some work under warrenty on my truck, i dropped it off and they said (i didnt ask) my rental car will be here in about 20 minutes.
they had everything set up, said if they have to keep truck more then 4 hours they supply a rental car.
this was a yr and half ago, not sure if they still do it

I have not heard too many positive things about their service department-My experience was with their sales department. They said they could not get the truck I wanted (see photo/description in sig.) after they had already let me order it and took my deposit-tried to steer me towards something already on the lot/in the order pipeline. They repeatedly tried to tell me that that config./color was not available even if ordered. (again, see photo/description in sig.)Got my deposit back (eventually) and drove 45 minutes across town and got exactly what I wanted (had to order it) at GO Toyota Arapahoe. (one more time, see photo/description in sig.) Too bad, they are the closest dealer to my home, but I'll never go back there for anything.

I hope you got the problem fixed- cause your "demands for a new car" are going get ignored. They get to attempt repair two more times or take your truck outta commission for like 28 more days before you even start to have a leg stand on.
I would say you need to look at your warranty paperwork about the rental thing---IIRC: If they keep your truck longer than a day they owe you a loaner.

    Good luck!!

i wish i had inquired more about that dealership before i bought my truck there. after i got it is when i started to hear the bad feed back about that place. before i bought my truck, the sales guy kind of told me the same thing. i wanted a long bed and i was told tacomas no longer have long beds for the double cab... then after buying the truck and searching on here, i find out they do come in the long bed but with the sports package or sr5. once my two year free maintenance is up, i'm going to start going to a different dealer also.

so i just got back from the dealership and they determined the noise was my brake actuator. they let me test drive two 2011 models and i did hear the same thing. they said every tacoma has that sound or at least the trd off roads. that's a big relief. i then asked why they fixed my clock spring since that wasn't the issue? the mechanic said that's what he thought it was until i brought it back and he had to talk with the service director and that's what he was told and he tested it and found the same noise and determined it was the brake actuator. here's something for you guys to test. since it happens in all tacomas or the trd off roads that i know of, when u guys first start your truck, drive forward or backwards for a short distant and put your ear up to the steering wheel as your driving and u should here the same scratch noise. make sure it's real quite because it only happens once after the start up. it should be same sound i'm hearing. the brake actuator is right in front of the firewall and i was told the sound traveled through to the steering wheel.

That 2 yr deal you can take to any Toyota dealership, they will honor. I take my wifes car to the one buy my house, unfortunately, I got a better deal 40 mins away.
