Definitely sounds like a bad LP pump. Can't believe they are going to throw a bunch of parts at it before they drop the tank and install another LP pump, doesn't take very long at all, maybe 20 min with it on the lift.

After I had mine done I had to drive about 15 miles to get gas, filled up so I could make sure nothing compromised from the tank being partially removed, filler neck was left installed and the tank was just leaned forward. No CEL on the way home, and no leaks this morning. One thing I did notice when I filled up the fuel gauge pointer now covers the F and on the center display indicated 357 miles til empty. Before the pointer was just on the forward side of the full hash mark and the display indicated 329 till empty.
oh well as long as its all good that's real minor

Some are getting the pump recall performed and some of us are told NO resolution as of yet

So what the Hell system is Toyota using to determine who gets the repair Now and who has to wait for God knows how long???

Mine is getting done at the dealer today. They told me it was a Looong procedure and would need the truck half the day at least, but I’ve seen people on here say it only took an hour or so...someone is fibbing and I bet it’s the dealer. I hate having this done because I’ve got 62K on the clock and she runs beautifully, hope they don’t screw things up. I’m one of those “if it works don’t fix it” kind of guys. We shall see...

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Not sure how Toyota techs are paid but other manufacturers pay flat rate for recalls and tsbs so the quicker they get it done, the bigger their bottom line. The extra time may be coming in if tech runs over on other vehicles or has more than one at a time. Nothing in the replacement is overly difficult so I assume extra time is them saying "we don't know when we'll fit you in that day..."

Mine also gets done today. Talked to a couple other taco owners when I dropped it off. The way I look at it is that I’m getting a fresh fuel pump at 42k miles. And if it fails in the not so near future I will be suspicious.

Just got mine done today. Looks like the techs decided to take the supercharger for a little 4 mile drive and fib on the mileage out recording lol. I don’t blame them and I’m not going to mention it, but definitely not going back to that dealer.
The good news is the pump works just as good as the old one so far!

*Update - got it done today, can’t tell the difference. But, I guess I have a little more peace of mind now, I don’t like having recalls hanging over my head.

Just got mine done. About 1 hour waiting, and that’s with 2 year old mud holding everything in place haha. My friend needed to use his 1/2” air impact. At least I went with 1/4 tank of gas.

All done. Seems more responsive but probably all in my head. I look at it as having a 2018 Taco with a 2020 fuel pump:thumbsup:

possible explanation: i think they disconnect the battery while they are working on it so the ECU will have to learn again. Things get sloggy as it does.

I thought the same was possible. But my 2.7 was hit the ETC button as soon as I started the truck every time before the pump replacement. Since the new pump I have not hit it once. No idea why but even after many miles since new pump it is more responsive.

Is anyone considering holding out on getting the new pump installed? It seems like guys are leaving the dealerships with more problems than when they arrived.

Holding out on a safety recall is not something I would do. Especially with winter approaching. I have had several different Toyota models and had a few recalls done. They did the torque converter on my Toyota Camry and it is still running strong. Research your local place and if it is a option others till your confident you have found one that has a strong service department.

I have an appointment scheduled for the 19th to get mine done. Truck has been flawless for 34k and I don’t treat it nicely.

It's not a big deal. Glad to have it done before the weather gets bad
