33x12.5 on stock?

Can I run a 33x12.5 on my stock 15's? The guys at my tire shop seemed to think it would be fine with my 3in lift, but Ive been reading up and I have heard both sides that it will work fine jsut rub a little on the wells, or that it wont and it wil rub my stock UCA or will be dangerous and have to be run at a lower psi. Im really hoping not because I am getting a good deal on them and the lift goes on Thursday.

Not sure a spacer is the way to go in this case. A stock rim is 6", 7" wide at best. Way too narrow for 12.5" wide tires. I think most manufacturers recomend a 9" minimum.

You can run 12.5" wide tires on 8" wheels no problem. Did that for several years on my old Cruiser.

 

I think it will rub at least some without spacers. I have 32x11.5 on OEM alloys with a 2.5" lift and they barely rub with the wheel all the way turned, but any wider tires would def rub.

I ran 33x12.5's on my jeep with 15x8 rims for years. Perfect size combination.

I ran with 32X11.50's on stock 7" wide rims for years (on my 96 tacoma) - but I had to run with the air pressure about 5lbs less than normal to ensure the tread would wear evenly. If you don't, you'll wear out the center of the tread.

If you run 12.50" tire on 7" wide rims - I can honestly say, it'll be UNSAFE. You'll have to lower the air pressure even further to get proper tread wear. I'm really really surprised a shop would even mount that size tire on that size rim.

 

If you are deadset on the 33x12.5's then you might want to try rims from an old GM 4x4 87 or older, that should solve your offset problems and lots of those rims were 8" wide, just keep an eye out or go to your local recycle center.

 

I am also having this issue in my 3rd gen tacoma, i recently lifted it with 3 inch leveling kit and i wanna get bigger tires, just like u i got a pretty good deal on 33x12.5 bajas and i am planning to mount them on my stock rims. I know they will rub on the UCAs so i bought me some 2 inch wheel spacers

 

Just get some 10" wide wheels, problem solved and no shitty spacers...I run 33x12.5x15s and barely rub at full turn.

 

I dont really wanna buy new wheels, i kinda like the stock rims for now

 

They wont work on stock 7" wide wheels.

 

31x10.5 is about your best bet then with stock wheels, maybe a 32x11.5

 

I know my factory 15" wheels with my 31x10.5 bulge out quite a bit (looks good IMO) can't imagine a 12.5" wide tire on them though.

 

On the topic of tires, I want a 33x12.5 on a 17x9 rim. does a 12.5 tire still do good in snow and not rub too much with a fox 3in lift? Looking at buying this type of setup soon but dont want to ruin offroad capability or snow driving with to wide of tires

 

So, what offset do you have and how high did you lift?

 

If you take the truck offroad i would go 8" wide i have always ran 12.50's on 8" rims on jeeps they work well. 10" wide rims tend to unseat beads offroad when you air them down. But if you dont go offroad a 10" wide rim would better so you can run more air pressure without ballooning the tire and wearing a bald spot down the middle. For a jeep on a 12.50 mounted on a 8" rim you need to run about 18psi in the tires for the thread to get full contact with pavement with a water test.
